Personally I prefer the idea of all games being multiplatformed. However I can see why they booed, there should have been a choice of 360 or PS3 so people werent stuck with a system they dont like/have no interest in (if I was given a 360 for free I would have a 50/50 chance of selling it)

I would have been happy just to get the game for free. I spent 60 bucks on the damn thing, and it's boring as hell. Seriously, Square-Enix? First FFXII, then Infinite Undiscovery, then The Last Remnant, and now FFXIII. Squaresoft made great games until they became Square-Enix.

Can we just refer to them as 'fans' at this point? It's not exactly like it was a gender-divided group there, nor that Final Fantasy is exactly targeted at a solely male demographic anymore.

I'm never going to get why one is 'better' than the other, considering that most of the games on there are multiplatform except for a few specific genre titles, so in the end it's pretty much dependent on what type of games you play MORE than others.

Eh... It'd be a bit like Halo going multi-platform. Yeah, the early history of the developer wasn't with Microsoft, but the two have become so linked that it's a bit like a betrayal of the original fans.

Remember all the people complaining about how CoD had forgotten the PC gaming grounds in which it had been planted, blossoming instead in the verdant console greens? It's kind of the same thing.

Imagine Mario going multi-platform.

This is a situation that is not in any way analogous to Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Square-Enix, or Final Fantasy.

A more apt analogy would be:

If the developers of Halo decided instead to switch from designing for the XBOX, and switched one of its IPs to the PS3 because they felt the XBOX 360 couldn't cut it, and then, after a decade of designing games for all systems available, and porting games for all systems available, made an announcement that ONE of their new games would be available for more than one system.

Exclusive games have always been a part of gaming culture, and if they start to mix and match, people WILL be pissed. What if they decided to put mario on the PS3? Or made a Halo game for the Wii? Nintendo's wide variety of over-used characters are still very much the face of Nintendo. Microsoft has Halo, Gears of War, and all the other grunting man-children with too much armor. Playstation is all about God of War, FINAL FANTASY (the 3-d ones), and even Rachet & Clank.

The moral is don't fuck with a GAME'S fanbase. Console 'tards will usually break their code to play other console games, if they're good enough. People who have played the Final Fantasy series from the original Playstation are NOT going to be thrilled that they are being offered a 360. Console fanbase only lasts a year or so, game fanbase stretches all the way back, across generations, even. You just don't fuck with that.

To put it in perspective, PC gamers, what if you won a contest for the Mac version of Starcraft II? Are you feeling pissed yet?

Well first, Sony doesn't own FF, SE does. Just like Sony doesn't own MGS, Konami does. Oh, and let's not forget the mother-fuckers at SE that own Geno. God dammit let Nintendo use him for Super Smash Bros! -cough- AHEM! Anyway. Mario is sole property of Nintendo and Halo is sole property of Microsoft. Its not quite comparable.

Also, if I got a free Mac with that hypothetical situation you suggested I might not feel so slighted...
