Well funny you should say that because the experts have taken a look and applied SCIENCE... and yeah the Xbox 360 version is a bag of bollocks compared to the PS3 version, the analogy "looks like it's done with crayons" may not be literally true but it is a fitting analogy:

Okay, so what are you going on about? I see no differences major enough to care about in that comparison video.

OH GAWD GUYS TEH EDGES ARE A TAD BIT SMUDGIER, THIS IS A PIECE OF CRAP

Oh, and I have a site that contradicts [http://t3chh3lp.com/blog/final-fantasy-xiiis-graphics-comparison-xbox-360-vs-ps3.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+t3chh3lp%2FlNJo+%28the+T3ch+H3lp+blog%29] that one.

And another. [http://www.thelostgamer.com/2010/02/12/final-fantasy-xiii-xbox-360-hands-on-preview/]

Oh, and if you're going to claim that "well, these are all small-time people", Gamespot agrees [http://www.gamespot.com/events/microsoftx10/story.html?sid=6248500&tag=newsfeatures;title;3] that the difference is minimal.

Oh, and the Metacritic rating [http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&termtype=all&ts=final+fantasy+XIII&ty=0&button=search] on both versions is EXACTLY EQUAL.
Actually, Metacritic likes the XBox 360 version by 1 point. (And typing that might have been a bad idea)

It could also be that the x360 version is terribly worse than the PS3 version. And that the PS3 version could have been even better if they didn't have to reduce the quality of the game for it to support x360, which ended up with a worse version anyway, so what's the point.
And just how is it terribly worse?
Frankly, I don't see a lot of difference graphically, but maybe that's just me.

And the rest of what you're saying seems a whole lot like blatant fanboyism to me. Do you have a source on it or is it just your own expert opinion based on the religion around your precious console?

Does anyone else not find it kind of beautiful?!

OT: I understand why they are and I don't care right to free booing and all that

Exactly what I thought. it went something like this:

1. Play video
2. Ten seconds in, forget which one is PS3 and which one is 360
3. About a minute in, make it full screen
4. Realise that things in the background are in fact a bit smudgier on the 360!
5. Shrug

are they perhaps booing because they believe FF has been dimmed down for the 360, something I still don't know is true or not?
It's true.
Amen to that. I feel their pain. The transition to multiplat hasn't exactly been easy on FF. I think the booing was rather funny, justified or not. Poor announcer guy.
God, this thread gave me a headache. John Funk makes an uninformed newspost, then 5000 sheep come and post "BURN THE FANBOYS" like they have any idea what the fans are angry about.

Yes, FFXIII was butchered at some time during its production cycle. The freaking devs admitted it. There was a newspost here on the Escapist about it. They said, themselves, that the things they took out of the game were so many that they would have been enough to make a WHOLE OTHER game. So, FFXIII started off as a titanic super project that would melt people's faces. Then they announced that it was going multiplat. Then they removed half the game. Coincidence? Who knows? The facts are two though:

1) FFXIII is half the game that they initially intended for it to be.
2) Multiplatform testing and optimization requires a lot of time and money.

Those facts might be unrelated, sure. But some people see a connection there, and I sure as hell can't blame them. This is the reason why Final Fantasy fans are mad, not because of some weird random hatred for the 360 users eating their cookies. If I was in their place I wouldn't boo though. I just wouldn't be there. What the hell were they doing there anyway?

I was at the launch and I think everyone there was booing the fact that these randomly picked people had the chance to win and they all didn't.

*scratches head* I don't get it... I really don't. Is the Final Fantasy franchise gaining a wider audience damaging them in some way? If anything they should be glad, after the absolute trite that was Final Fantasy 12, allowing more people to play means more feedback and less crappy games in future. Though I'd like to think FF13 learned from the mistakes of 12.

Sheesh, that gives a bad reputation to Final Fantasy fans. What's wrong with the idea of the 360?
It has to do with the whole final fantasy (at least since VII anyways) belongs to Sony's console thing. Then there's the thing about the graphics as a lot of people think that having it on the 360 also caused the graphics to be lesser than what they believe they could be. I don't know, I'll be happy when I go to the games store in a bit and pick it up for my 360 'cause then I won't have to buy a PS3 as that to me would be like buying a $300 peripheral to play a game.

Kinda. In terms of character it certainly has. All the party characters are involved this time, and whilst I quite liked the perspective of an uninvolved observer swept along for the ride, which was what Vaan and Penelo were in XII, I have to admit that as of 20 hours in the cast of FFXIII is much stronger. Even Snow is growing on me, and I thought he was a pillock at the start.

Though it could just be that it has a man with a chicken in his 'fro.

I'm not sure whether the changes to world structure are entirely positive. FFXII is very open, and every area feels huge, whereas FFXIII doesn't even try and hide the fact that it's one straight line for the first 20-30 hours (depending on how fast you go). I hear it opens up later on, but the linear bit is, I think, too long and too linear. Even Eternal Sonata didn't feel this linear (though largely it was).

I think FF12 was actually a much better game that FF13, so I have no idea what you're talking about.

I don't know what's funnier.

- The idiots booing a console.
- The idiots booing the idiots booing (first person to point of the hypocritical nature of this statement wins the coveted I Lack Brain Award)
- The idiots telling people to lighten up, wondering if they always take to the internet. By taking to the internet and telling people to lighten up.

It's like The Perfect Storm of fanboy idiocy and sheer stupidity perfectly encapsulated in thread form.

This is a rare thing folks. We must treasure this moment.
Or even better, the idiots who go into threads full of said idiots and call them idiots.

You're a winner.

Wasnt Halo the other way around? Bungie started as part of microsoft studios then became a third party. In other news- Retards boo the 360 at an event. Fuck em' SE owes nothing to Sony, and probably has made more money from FF11 on 360 subs than It has from Sony in recent years. I have both consoles and even though its a better game on ps3 (one disc and better res FMV's) I bought the 360 version because I will always get multiplatform games for 360 regardless.
Let's not forget that if it wasn't for Sony SE wouldn't even be around after the Spirits Within fiasco. Granted Sony never forced SE to an exclusivity deal for backing them, but to say SE owes nothing to Sony is total crap.

As for FF 11 well of course it did better for the 360 since Sony did absolutly nothing with the online capability for the PS2. Hell once the slim came out anyone who played FF11 on the PS2 had to find a used older model system since the slim had no room for the HD.

*update* Back on the main topic it seems that so many people on this forum seem to see this as Sony Fanboys lashing out, but in the Koalition's page they even said that it was all the FF fans so really it makes FF fans look bad rather then Sony fans.

You know, complaining about comparisons NOW after they've been doing them routinely for every multi-platform game that's come out this gen, seems a bit ironic.

...

It was fine for the PS3's scores to suffer for the past 3 years, but once the tables start to turn, we'll just redefine categories of rating games? Sounds like sour grapes to me, honestly.
I never pay attention to comparisons between platforms myself, unless there's a critical difference. There isn't here, and hasn't been in most cases, regardless of which way people swung on the issue. Therefore I am calling him out for calling the 360 version a bad one.
