I haven't played FFVII but how big was it that it would take much longer than XIII? The story, plot, script, and basic designs are already done. Wouldn't it just require new graphics and voices? Granted that's a lot, but still.

I so hope they do and that they don't screw it up... but surely it won't take that long... I men they've got the concepts pretty much, the storyline, just need to make it pretty :p

But god please please please make it for the pc... It seems unfair that we pc users got lumped with FF"unspeakable" :/

Hold on a second. Got a thing here somewhere...

According to the Guinness Book of World Records: Gamer's Edition, Final Fantasy XII took 5 years to produce. So surely if you have ALL the studio working hard, you could get it out in... ooh say... 4 years? Just announce it when it's nearly done!

How would doing the remake where you already have the script, the states of the game, all the characters and monsters done already, take longer to create than a brand new Final Fantasy game? I mean they already have what would have taken them months of planning, so just put the graphics on and your done. I wouldn't even mind if it didn't have any voice actors, just better graphics.

At least this is a semi-reasonable answer. What I'd like is a straight answer as to why there isn't a new Chrono game in the works.

Oh please. You have everything but the graphics and sounds already done. Would the models really take so long to make? You already recycle models from past creations (Advent Children Cloud --> Lightning) so I don't really buy this excuse. Not that I'd want a remake of FFVII... It's clear people don't give a damn about graphics if the game (released over a decade ago no less) is entertaining.

Yes. My, the time it would take them to make a game which would probably earn them enough money to buy America wholesale.

Seriously, do they just not like money anymore over at Squeenix?

Jesus what the hell is up with this topic, every other day theirs a new news article on FF7 with one saying the producer would love to do a remake and then the next blatantly saying that it's impossible. It's driving me crazy, and this coming from someone who doesn't really care for FF games.

Indeed, that's just a horrible excuse. And if it would take so much time, then why not put off development on 14, I'm sure people can wait to play that, especially if a remake of 7 was the reason for it.

The issue is that they'd have to remake and re-animate all the character and monster models. Then they'd have to completely create, from scratch mind you, all of the game environments since they were simply 2D watercolour pictures in the original. They'd have to record all the dialogue (which wouldn't be too hard since they already have an established cast(including Steven Blum SQWEEE)). They'd have to update all the summon animations to look ridiculous and last 4 times as long /sarcasm. Not to mention that they'd have to completely recode everything anyway since the cell processor is very particular and intricate when it comes to programming.

In summation, they'd basically have to make an entirely new game where all they would have is characters, a script and a battle system.
Which is essentially how every new game starts out.

>_> Well, instead of quadrupling the development time, they could just quadruple the development team?

*Sigh*

Alas, maybe one day when we meet our robot overlords they might make it for us!
That'd probably involve pulling people away from other projects, and since Versus 13 is already taking longer to make than the entire evolution of mankind, I don't think they'd be willing to do that.

But can I get my remakes of V and VI first? I mean, I, II, III, and IV all got remade in the last ten years, a couple times, even, yet V and VI have only had one more iteration. Lemme get the 3D Versions like you did for IV and III. Please!
Then you guys can work on remaking everything else.

According to Kitase a next-gen remake of Final Fantasy VII would simply take too long to make: "If we were to recreate Final Fantasy VII with the same level of graphical detail as you see in Final Fantasy XIII, we'd imagine that that would take as much as three or four times longer than the three and a half years it has taken to put this Final Fantasy together,"
This? This here is right here is why I HATE HATE HATE the graphics race. Now, don't get me wrong, but I never really liked FFVII (but that's not important right now). However, it was a pretty long game, with a lot of stuff in it. So if trying to update the graphics would take three times as long as the current Final Fantasy to develop (and that's with the story already made [though they would probably re-write a lot of the dialog and record voice-overs]), does that mean FFXIII has a third the content? Seriously?
Obvious Kefka fan is obvious.

In all seriousness though, they should either remake it on PSP, or ignore it and get to work on FFV and FFVI already.

How about they just MOVE ON!

That game has run its course, by remaking it they would have to account for all the spin off and crap and try writing that mess into it.

Let sleeping dogs lie, the game still has a place in my heart, don't destroy that.

I translate that as "Final Fantasy VII is 3 or 4 times the game XIII is."

I know that's not really what he's saying, but I can't help but feel that they keep making pathetic excuses.

Oh, this is just fucking retarded.

Final Fantasy VII is anime. I liked Advent Children and all, but a remake of the game should preferably be done in stylized graphics, maybe slightly above Kingdom Hearts II in character detail (but with higher-res textures and such), and perhaps a little bit more cartoony.

I know a god-damn insane amount of resources have been put into creating Final Fantasy XIII's graphics, and all the focus on those graphics is probably why the actual game looks rather dull and uninteresting to me.

EDIT:
Also, would be appreciated if all the lost content from the original game was put into the remake. Actually, that'd be one of the main reasons to buy and play it.

The real reason has to be that it isn't profitable to do a remake, because if it would be, it would obviously have been made already.

After reading this article I realized that FFVII's planet was indeed a full SPHERE world with cities/dungeons doted alover the map though once the graphics increased so much when FFX was made it hasn't really been a WHOLE planet you explore so much as a wide range of locations with different climates, wildlife, and species. Not to mention all of the details you'd need to make for the one time events that occured like the Launch of the Rocket in Rocket Town The Golden Suacer's over night event, the roller coaster, Chocobo Circut, The Mako Cannon (both Versions) and the several stages of the Highwind to name a few .... Though if they could it'd be amazing but I can now grasp why it's not readily doable now. :(

Edit: Not to mention they'd have to make & destory the galaxy just becuase of the spell "Super Nova".
