I liked and i didn't like 13 at the same time, the battle system i hated, up until 12 (this includes the mmo 11) they've used the same battle system which i think is esentially a part of the final fantasy series which is that its turn based combat (with a hint a of real time), and i believe it worked rather well, but now if you look at the ones after 11 the battle system seem to change everytime a new one comes out and i've never really liked the others (10-2 i was iffy with, 12, and 13), with 13 being the worst with the fact that you have more or less no control over your party (yes you can manually choose for whoever your playing but the rest is down to the paradigm system).

I also found 13 to be the most linear thing out there, i haven't even finished it (one of the only FF's which i haven't finished, i got on the 2nd disc but not to the first town) because there was no choice in what to do, now i know a lot of people will say that all final fantasys are somewhat linear but come on at least with the predecessors you could at least do other things, i guess i wont know till next year since i wont have my housemates xbox to play on till then, think i might reactivate my 11 account and get hooked on that again.

FFXIII's biggest problem was not its battle system, but its linearity. A few people hated the battles, yes, but for the most part it was well receieved. (I really liked how fast boss fights are, the way it's more about doing it right than simply having high enough level characters). The game was so linear, though, that outside of battle the player barely had any control or choices beyond "move forward" until near the end of the game. I didn't personally mind this, but I know a lot of people despised it. If they can open this game up, I think it'll be much better received than the FFXIII.

P.S. Thanks

Okay, plus one point for the writers realizing that, since everyone is on Gran Pulse now, monsters are EVERYWHERE and it's going to be a struggle just to survive. That was what bothered me about the ending of Final Fantasy XIII. It's all rainbows and sunshine. Nobody seems to truly grasp just how screwed everyone is now. Will be getting this.

I enjoyed the battle system and would be fine if it stayed the same.

Also, I love Noel's design.

The only thing about XIII that stopped me dead was all the grinding you HAD to do at the end to finish the game. That caused me to trade it in. here's hoping XIII won't suffer from that issue.
there was grinding you had to do at the end of the game? i must have missed it because i found ff 13 to be the least grind heavy rpg i have ever played. i cant remember any point where i felt i needed to stop and farm xp. which section are you talking about?

also, is it me or does noel kinda look like a male version of yuna? (im assuming its male but with jrpgs you never can tell)

I liked the battle system in XIII, as well as the music. I hope they don't make party leader death into game over again, though, and I really hope the story is better than XIII's. Overall, I'm excited.

I still think it is funny that people have the misconception about 13 that you have to play 10 hours for it to get good.

When we said, it doesn't open up and get good for like 30+ hours we weren't kidding.

Side note the combat is the worst out of all the final fantasy's I mean auto battle really its a game we are here to play.

Wow, the last part of that image really made me facepalm. Do people really assume just because Nomura did the character designs, he had full control over every aspect of the game, or what?
It's because Nomura has a tendency to pull stupid shit like that. I don't think he's a horrible character designer or director, but he does make stupid decisions. He directed Advent Children after all.

The linearity wasn't a huge problem, the lack of things to do in the tube was the huge problem. People didn't mind X as much because there were towns, side quests, and the like.

Well, you can manually stack options if you like; just go configure it.

My main request for the game would be to increase damage output/reduce HP across the board. Combat had a tendency to drag along in some fights, so it would be nice to have a way to quickly down an enemy without wasting summons or anything. Just make tactics more important, that's all I'm asking.

Other than that, the combat was pretty good. Hope the "evolution" will be a step in the right direction.

[sub]My other request is to fix the writing. Square-Enix, you still have money! Please hire someone who knows their job![/sub]

For a second I thought Fang dyed her hair, but I was thankfully wrong.

Well I'm intrigued, I'm a little confused about Lightning going missing since we saw her in the first trailer, but we shall see.

Whoa whoa whoa....wait. Why is he giving Serah a freaking weapon

OT: FF13's battle system isn't half bad. It's the gut wrenching story that needs massive -MASSIVE- improvement.

Remove the leader system, and the game will be fine.

Since it's all on Gran Pulse (the ONE part of XIII that wasn't linear), maybe the whole game will be that way this time.

For comparison, X-2 was fine... it was just needless. And incredibly random.

Honestly thought that Noel was Fang in the first screen shot.
Once of the first things I said was that it looks like they're reusing the model they probably used for fang when she was going to be a male, haha.

So... *spoilers*...

This is the story of Cocoon/Spira rebuilding after the death of the powerful god-like creature Sin/Space Pope, whose destruction has caused two differing and feuding sides to unite and all seems well, even though the battle to earn this peace had two teammates (Fang & Vanille/Auron and Tidus) sacrifice themselves in the process. But then, a few years later, one of the young female heroes (Serah/Yuna) doesn't believe one of them that's missing (Lightning/Tidus) is REALLY dead and sets off on an adventure to find her sister/boyfriend, probably with some familiar faces, and some random teammate that wasn't in the first game (Noel/Paine). The game promises to be far less linear than the first too.

... Oh geez, tell me Vanille's not going to do her best Lara Croft impression, Fang's not going to start playing dress-up, and Lightning's not going to save the world through the power of pop songs!

SQUARE: Hey Enix, you know what would be awesome?

ENIX: No, Square, I do not know.

SQUARE: Let's make a sequal to one of our Final Fantasy games! FFX-2 was so awesome! Let's do FFXIII-2.

ENIX: Um, Square... I am not sure we can put them in any skimpier outfits, or the game might not get released in Sweden due to child pornography claims... Besides, I thought people didn't like the game?

SQUARE: Pish posh, who can't like endless corridors, no plot for half the game, and not a single town to be in? And lets not do skimpy outfits this time. Let's to ARMOUR! YEAH!

ENIX: So, we fixing the bad stuff? Like the combat system?

SQUARE: Enix you fool, we need MORE of what made FFXIII so bad, how else can we justify having more cut scenes than a Kojima game?!

ENIX: You are right Square, this is a good idea. Let's work on this after we re-release FF1 and FFIV for the nth time. Saves us from butchering FFVII...

And that is how games development happens at Square Enix.

PS: I feel Square Enix is like an ex-wife, you once loved them, but now they just seem to exist to make your life miserable.
Haha, i totally agree my friend...

I see the Auto-Battle button is still there, that is enough to turn me off to this game.

I personally loved FFXIII and hope the next one is 100% more of the same with a long story expansion.

Haters gonna hate. While I enjoy my experience. I agree it wasn't the best FF (FF6 WTF), but it wasn't bad. You want a bad FF game go play FFX-2.

Fuck everyone else, I am buying FFXIII-2 and I am going to enjoy it.

If you don't fucking like it or don't want to play it, DON'T FUCKING TALK ABOUT IT. It's none of your damn business! Play whatever game YOU want and leave others preferences out of it!

I loved FFXIII's battle system for one simple reason. It wasn't the old ATB system.

Seriously, people ***** and complain that turn-based battle systems were shitty and slow, demanded JRPGs have more real-time battles.. FFXIII HAS THIS. It's almost an exact blend of the two. I have a blast chaining attacks that I know will send the chain gauge into overdrive so I can LAUNCH A BEHEMOTH INTO THE FUCKING AIR. Guys. Come on. BEHEMOTH. INTO THE AIR.

Hell, if you don't like it? Simple. As I described above, don't fucking ***** about it. Play another game you DO like. I'll be quite happy over here playing whatever the fuck I want.

Here's the kicker, they're TWO SCREENSHOTS. That's it. And you're already judging the game? Fucking hell.. The battle system is going to have similarities but changes will most likely be made!
