Maybe that purple haired dude is a male doppelganger of lighting? I also noticed the feathers and what appears to either be a cloak of feathers or a wing. Anyone guessing something like Septhiroth (I know its unrelated but it could be a similar sort of thing, no?)?

Well Sephiroth was originally going to be female and their is a theory that he was in his first form anyway.

1. You never see child Sephiroth, never even teenage Sephiroth.
2. In a cut scene from the final product of FFVII a female body is found and its believed to be Sephiroth.

I'll be the 3000th person to say it, we had a hard enough time viciously erasing all memories of FFX-2 and we might not make it through another one.

OT: FFX-2 was saved/tolerable in my eyes due to its battle system and music. Overwhelming, mind-numbing, free-will-obliterating nostalgia is the only thing that kept me from emitting so many hate waves from playing FFXIII that my PS3 gained motion and put a barrel in its disc drive.

I'm going to assume I'm the only one who is really, really psyched for this.

You assume incorrectly, as I am too. The ending in Final Fantasy XIII left too many questions and didn't solve any of the main problems. Yes, they defeated the enemy, but now they are stuck on "Hell" with no tech, no homes, and a panicked population. Bad juju right there.

Dear Square, having half of your trailer consist of the ending of a previous game is NOT a nice thing to do. Next time, just start out with Lighting in her completely not-battlefield-appropriate armor please. Thank you.

On another note, if they can make XIII-2 with a world map + towns - corridors = happy me!

although..if versus is pushed back a bit, and ends up being awesome, i am perfectly happy with waiting a bit longer for it. i saw that leaked preview of it and it definitely looks like alot more fun.

ot: i will be VERY careful about ff13-2, i will check out more reviews than i ever have before before even thinking about getting the game, they better switch up a whole lot gameplay/game flow wise if they want me to consider buying it.

I liked FFXIII and I thought Lightning was a really interesting character (incidentally wasn't the first part just the last cutscene of FFXIII?) and the story has room to be interesting because they're forging a whole new world, all the survivors.

But darn, that armour looks so ugly. Lightning looked great before, I disapprove of the change

Well, it's not unusual for JRPG's to have silly stories, unlikable characters, and games that play themselves. Just look as far back as the Xenosaga series (Note: I'm sure there are more but this is the most recent one I played), a game made by a different company. Let's not forget that they (The game developers) love to shove some sort of odd take on morality and questioning humanities fate, or the power of friendship, or love, or some other such silliness. IMO, that game was more enjoyable when it played with itself.

So yeah, FF13-2... Squeenix, I'll pass just like I've passed on all of your games since FF10.

On another note... remember when Square and Enix were separate entities and made good games like the Gaia series(Enix) and Vagrant Story(Squaresoft)?
