Final Fantasy XIII-2 Will "Exceed" Final Fantasy XIII

Artists attempting to force an opinion onto their audience end up being very, very disappointed. The critical side of me seems to be challenged to misinterpret FFXIII-2's well-asserted "point" so what the hey I am putting money on this. I call it Plan-9-From-Outer-Space logic.

What the hell ever happened to Versus XIII? And, really? Another direct sequel? Is Square-Enix so out of ideas for Final Fantasy titles that they're rehashing XIII?

I would probably play the shit out of this game if it featured Lighting, Fang, and Vanille on their exodus to outdress each other. Perhaps swapping Vanille for Hope, as it would achieve the same effect with much less annoyance (at the cost of unintentional lesbians).

I wholly enjoyed 12 chapters of FF13 (Pulse totally didn't happen, right?), so I hope that 13-2 can make me like every chapter.

I know that by now in this thread what I'm about to say is hardly original, but I'll add my two cents to the *massive pile*:

Please God don't let it go the way of FFX-2!

Lets look at the history shall we?

FFX sucked
and its sequal, FFX-2, was even worse

Seeing as FF13 is what I consider to be the worst game ever made (Or atleast worst major release.), FF13-2 should be absolute shit. Not like I expect anymore from Final Fantasy now anways.
FFX didn't suck! You thinking of Final fantasy XI, now that sucked, it's the only one, too me, that sucked. (Haven't played X-2)
No I'm pretty sure I put my head on straight this morning, so I am thinking straight. FFX definitely sucked. I swear if I ever met the main charecter..or yuna.. or anyone in that game on the street I would punch them square in the face.

I liked both FFX-2 and FFXIII so all I'm doing is crossing my fingers and hoping it turns out ok.
Same here.

OT:

I just want more Sazh.
Yeah, loved both games! I'm disappointed that there's no Gunner Yuna in Duodecim yet...

OT: I liked XIII, but I never finished it. Got stuck at a tower on Disc 4... Still, this looks great!

I know this game came out some time ago, and most people never finished it, but a warning would have been nice:

That trailer is heavy in spoilers.

Either this will turn out as the worst game in the series, or it'll be a giant middle finger to X-2 and XIII haters if it turns out to be good.

P.S.: While I'm not necessarily a fan of fanservice... Damn.

Is it wrong that that trailer just makes me hope Lighting gets stabbed in the thigh?

On the one hand, I want to give this an honest chance. On the other hand, I want to write it off in principle. Though I really fail to see why, from a story perspective, there needed to be a sequel. Everything was looking fine and dandy at the end. Same thing with X... and 1-9. FFVII was somewhat more understandable, but even then. I guess it'll just shit all over the positive ending like every other unnecessary sequel.

Also, Lightning is allowed to wear pants you know.

On another note, if they can make XIII-2 with a world map + towns - corridors = happy me!
I guess we'll have to wait and see...
Agreed. If there isn't something that even resembles a town I will just say fuck it.

No... not really.

Prior to watching I was thinking "well hopefully they won't do what the did to Yuna"
After first shot of Lightning: "Oh hey armor. That's pretty cool"
She stands up: "sigh... dammit"

sorry for double post escapist

you know, any pinch of interest I had in this game was instantly vanished as soon as i saw all the original ff13 characters.

why did they think this was a good idea? wasn't this the least liked ff game to date?

so that announcement they recently made about their games being crappy and how they needed new direction was basically them ramping up their old strategy of quantity over quality?

"yes, the final fantasy brand is in danger and were deeply concerned for its direction. so the obvious solution is to pump out as many cheap spin-offs and over-saturate the market with the final fantasy brand as much as possible!"

these people are insane. all faith in SE, gone.

I enjoyed Final Fantasy XIII, but the ending seemed like an ending. Oh well, I still want to see how XIII-2 turns out, even though I am much more excited for Versus XIII(and believe that Tetsuya Nomura will make a much better director than Motomu Toriyama).

Actually, the lowest rated game was Final Fantasy II for the NES. For good reason too, Final Fantasy XIII may not have had a perfect battle system but at least it wasn't completely broken.

If lightning is supposed to be a strong woman, why is her underarms and thighs exposed in that outfit? it just seems silly. I wish theyd just bring out Versus. All this other stuff is secondary

final fantasy 2 wasn't even released in USA. and this happened, what, 20 years ago? lol. not exactly relevant.

ff13 was not "completely broken" but it was broken. plot was bad and meaningless, combat was mindless, characters were god awful and dialog was embarassing, summons were pointless and just ridiculous, but hey, at least it looked good. thats all that matters to most people these days, so of course its at least within general levels of public acceptance.

the amount of actual interaction I got from this game was almost non-existent. thats pretty broken, considering that most people play games for the interaction. theres a way to tell a big story, have long cutscenes and still have an amazing gaming experience, just look at metal gear solid 4. people complained about the cutscenes, but i didn't mind them, because not only were they actually enjoyable to watch with great acting and dialog, but the game was still polished as all hell and played great.

Shouldn't be that difficult so long as they remember that they are NOT Key, they DO NOT MAKE VISUAL NOVELS, THEY MAKE GAMES.

Wow internet, I am disappointed. I expect way more than just 150 replies full of JRPG hate from you guys.

OT- FF XIII was a day one purchase for me, and I enjoyed it. It was far from the best in the franchise, but also far from the worst. It was just a mediocre FF title.

This one, however, will not be a day one purchase for me, I still can't get the taste of X-2 out of my mouth. I'll wait until it hits, gather information and then make up my mind then.
