Final Fantasy XV Director Encourages More Car Meme Photo Edits

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata releases art assets for people to make funny pictures of Noctis and the crew's road trip.

In a Square Enix stream, Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata answered questions about Final Fantasy Type-0 and the latest Final Fantasy XV trailer. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/final%20fantasy%20xv]

Following that trailer's release, people on Reddit and social networks began posting edited pictures of the Final Fantasy XV characters in the car looking to the side [http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/2gy61l/final_fantasy_xv_sidequest//], such as a picture of the characters in a fast food chain's drive thru.

Tabata, amused by people's creations, has released three pictures with transparent backgrounds for people to edit. He encouraged pictures be tagged with #FFXVCOLLA. [https://twitter.com/hashtag/FFXVCOLLA?src=hash]

Final Fantasy XV will not have a character switching system, An archived version of the stream [http://www.siliconera.com/2014/10/02/final-fantasy-xv-wont-let-change-characters-battle/] is available on YouTube.

Square Enix hopes to make a unique battle system for Final Fantasy XV. Tabata explained in the stream that players can do basic attacks by pressing the attack button and then do different actions depending on the directional button pressed. These actions change based on circumstances, such as right timing for guarding or the location of teammates. Players can jump, free run, and defend, though Tabata clarified that auto-guarding and evading consumes MP.

"Even though there are parts from Versus that we have ended up changing, we've developed them in more interesting ways," Tabata said, according to a translation. [http://gematsu.com/2014/10/final-fantasy-xv-director-addresses-fan-concerns-new-gameplay]

The Final Fantasy XV demo will be available for free to people who purchase Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.

Nice to see Square isn't clueless when it comes to some things. This is basically valve level marketing, IE let your consumer market the game for you. No I'm not saying Valve were the first to do this or invent this just that they seem to pretty much only do this when it comes to marketing their products.

I think you mean Square, not Sony.

Viral marketing usually depends on being a bit more subtle than this to be effective...

While I am a bit saddened by the fact that you can't control other party members (I'd only do it a few times honestly cuz I'm a 'Protagonist must be the most used character' kinda guy). But hey, it's nice and refreshing that a developer can laugh with the fans with their game.

Now the only thing that's left is to release the game :3

I just want to experience it so much :D

OK Escapist do your thing:

POST ALL THE CAR/ROADTRIP MEMES (don't know how to post memes let alone create them :p)

I find it hilarious that nobody is complaining about these sentences:

Why do I find it hilarious? Because this is essentially LESS control than Final Fantasy XIII did. In Final Fantasy XIII, they controlled one character directly, but you could control the actions of the other characters with the Paradigm Shift, allowing the strategy that the franchise is always known for. Plus there is the fact that there is an ATB gauge meter in Final Fantasy XIII's combat system and yet the Final Fantasy XV battle system isn't getting complained about not having this (they could totally have put something like the Deck system from Birth By Sleep in FF15). Another thing that is noticeable is that so far we have not seen any use of buffs and debuffs in Final Fantasy XV's battle system (something that was integrated in FInal Fantasy XIII's battle system).

So apparently, it's okay to criticize FF13's battle system despite having more of the FF normal design in it, but when it comes to FF15's battle system it's all of the sudden "NO! You Gais don't understand! It's totally revolutionary and is going to get the franchise back to the nostalgic glory days I remember back in the 90's!"

Stay hypocritical FF fandom, stay hypocritical.

I think that people might have been expecting this change after it was anounced that the "Kingdom Hearts II" development team was working on "Final Fantasy 13 vs." back in 2006. Most of us were expecting a Kingdom Hearts combat mechanics in a non Disney enviroment.

In other words: Most of the fandom saw this coming 8 years ago.

It's great that he's embracing the meme (if only as a means of advertising), instead of lashing out like some primadonna creators, but if I was him, I'd try to also get some more trailers out showing that the game is not a pure road trip with some dino fighting at the rest stops. (Unless it really was all about that. In which case, I'd either try to get out of the project or at least stop the meddling execs from changing it from a spinoff title into a main entry.) This might just be adding fuel to the fire sort of like 8 years ago when Kaz Hirai shouted a fountain of memes at E3 and inadvertently supplied the PS3 satire. At least, Tabata is doing it on purpose.

It's also great that they're going back to pre-FFVI in terms of not having 2-3 teams worth of nearly identical party members to train. But, being locked solely to the protagonist kinda subverts that and gives you almost no options. The circumstantial actions (Chrono Trigger's design rings a bell) that used MP add some strategic element, but having control over only party member kinda breaks the Final Fantasy/JRPG aspect I liked about the series. (And, that's one of the reason's I haven't got past about 2 hours of FF13 and probably will not ever do so.) I'll be watching this with cold judging, cynical eyes(so my normal optimism of the modern media, actually) and will see what everyone say after they blow $60 on it.

At least it seems like Tabata is having fun with the content. Nomura's reign over 15 has seemed a bit more tight fisted, and secretive, even with the marketing etc. So I'm glad to see that Tabata, if not Square in general is realizing that there is no harm in opening up a little about what's going on.

I'm disappointed to hear they took out character switching, but Tabata's openness with the development is refreshing. I'm glad they're getting the disappointing news out of the way and taking feedback from fans. Hopefully this will be the brunt of the bad news and more good news is coming. I'm still really looking forward to this.
