Hajime Tabata left Square Enix after Final Fantasy XV to start his own studio and the first game he's working on is, interestingly, about the Paralympics.

"Ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, we are eager to explore innovative ways to engage with new and younger global audiences," added Andrew Parsons, IPC President. "We believe this game will help boost interest in the Paralympic Games and make it easier for people all over the world to enjoy and experience the heated atmosphere, passion and excitement of the event.

"The sport at the Paralympics is outstanding and helps transform attitudes towards persons with disabilities like no other event. I am really excited to see and play this game and see how the outstanding abilities of Para-athletes are represented."
This certainly sounds like a neat idea. I think the first and last time I ever played as a disabled character in a game was Bently in Sly 3/Thieves in Time. I know there have been more in games I haven't played. (Overwatch has a few, Sekiro, and Wolfenstein's BJ off the top of my head) I'm curious how it'll be received by disabled gamers. Looking forward to actually seeing some gameplay in the future.

Probably the same way Visible minorities receive playing as a minority.

Or Women playing as a woman

Or LGBT playing as Ellen page.

Or men playing as men.

They'll ask if the game is fun and it'll end there.

If it really is that simple then that'd be nice, but I certainly don't stop there.

Katawa Shoujou was a good VN with similar themes so I'm keeping an open mind. Also expecting a journalist to call the game too hard just for the delicious irony.
