Was I supposed to laugh at this? Because I did. A lot.

Although I imagine this "game" is going to be ignored by its target audience and tried by everyone else just for laughs.
even better, it'll be ignored in favor getting head shots, or leveling up *insert MMO Class here*, or playing some thing fun.

I glossed over it (I'm at work, can't really go in-depth right now) and I demand equality! We need a game for boys!

Some of the objectives would include:

- Lift weights
- Get a tan
- Drink beer
- Watch Football
- Beat up some geeks
- Urinate in a public place

And much, much more!

Because that's just as accurate to what "guys" do as a collective (because you can generalize an entire gender to have same interests, right?) as this 'game for girls'.
THIS GAME MUST BE MADE!

Tell me, ladies of the Escapist, if I were to abandon my graduate studies in the sciences and become a car washer, would one of you finally date my forever-alone ass? Oh, I'll even change my name to Car Washer, or Taco Bell Server, or how about this, Truck Driver? You want money? Sure, here's $50/day for your most wonderful company. I typically hang out at some nondescript "Club" in my work clothes if you want to talk or something.

I'm not sure what everybody's problem with this thing is. It's clearly a satirical masterpiece showing how the mindless consumerist culture of our modern times have reduced the individual woman to nothing more than an empty shell obsessed with climbing some imagined social ladder by attaining financial security from the clearly more important male, which she will then use to obtain more stuff to further climb said ladder, thereby gaining more material wealth and a new sugardaddyboyfriend, which will enable her to start the same cycle over again. It's this, isn't it? Please tell me this isn't for real...
In all seriousness, I wonder why Car Washer is so comfortable with paying his, erm, "girlfriend" every day. This may just be the worst message of the entire game...

It does feel pretty sexist. Try finding a game for men that is like this. You have to have a boyfriend who, and this is important, gives you money. That is what pisses me off!

Boyfriends are ranked by how much money they give the girl a day. WTF? I think this game offensive to both genders. Seriously I'm not a money machine and I'd never date someone that treated me as such.

This is my personal GOTY contender, possibly the best life simulation game released this year.
I find the boyfriend daily limit completely broken though, went for a gold digger build strat but as you can only get money from 1 boyfriend per day it's kinda pointless :(

I'm shocked more of you male escapists aren't completely offended by the boyfriend part tbh.
Between the boyfriends name being his job and his only use being a social prop (you can't go to the party without a bf! :O) and being a better source of income then finding a job yourself this goes way past being offensive and goes full circle into being absolutely hilarious.

I am going to name my first born child Car Washer. That way when the evil witch is defeated my son can say... "Yeah. I was there. I dated the hero, before she was cool."

The amount of money Car Washer will make the family in royalties from his tell all biography will be GLORIOUS

None of it is offensive.

It's quite possibly the most hilarious thing i've read recently.

And why would us, as males, take it as offensive that we are seen as cash machines for our women?

Comedians have been doing that since the dawn of the funny.

Chubby Brown joke for you. Why do women need a man? Because vibrators can't buy the drinks.

Besides, my daughters know my rules on dating. They can date when they turn 40 or when i'm dead ..... whichever comes latest.

Only needed to have one conversation about sex in which I told them everything they will ever need to know ...... they will never have any ...... EVER.

But the main reason some of us don't find it offensive is the stick fell out of our arse many, maaaaany years aqo and we now take things about as seriously as Katie Price's (attempted) singing career (well, she managed one song with her ex and attempted to enter Eurovision for us but she sounds like a cat being slowly buggered with an electric whisk).

In closing, life is far too short and too amusing to take shit like this seriously and get offended by the slightest pathetic crap the internet vomits up.

Lighten up, you'll enjoy yourself more.

The only reason I said it was becuase lately there has been many threads saying that sexism has turned in the favour of women. They are full of people who agree with the OP 100%...

The fact that you all think this is hilarious after those threads end up being 10 pages long is slightly odd to me.

But I guess you all don't really think its true... You can't compain about men being treated as the clowns in commercials and suchlike if something like this, which is actually derogatry to men, is laughed off. I kind of find the fact that the boyfriend doesn't even have a name slightly horrific and I'm a woman.

Ah, Lady Popular.

I considered giving it a spin a couple of weeks back, but I didn't want to bother with signing up for the website. Too much effort for a bad game.

The whole stealing from an evil witch thing sounds really cool. A master thief working for the good of all by doing what society usually looks down upon. Plus the magical elements invites all sorts of neat possibilities for setting and character design. It makes me wonder just what happened along the way that made this game what it is....

Didn't notice the reverse sexism thread.

I don't think it's true at all. Women become more independent as the years go on and blokes get put in our place, which we sometimes need, and thats about it.

For instance, my missus is the boss of our house. What she says goes. I wouldn't want it any other way.

She keeps the house going and knows what bills go when and what needs paying and when whereas I just nod and smile. Left up to me the house would collapse and we'd be left eating the bloody pets.

I'm useless, i'm man enough to admit it. Without my wife i'd be lost.

Joined the army straight from school at 16 and left at 28 so never had to worry about any of that. She lived on her own from 15 and she's 5 years older than me so has more experience of dealing with the day to day running of the house.

I do the cooking and cleaning and sort the kids out because I work from home now and she's a nurse working long hours.

I feel I do my fair share of things but with my wifes guidance.

As far as crap like the "game for girls", I just find it impossible to look at in a serious manner (although I struggle to take many things seriously).

Great...

Thankfully, most women I know would rather play The Sims.
You mean the game that teaches you that the path to a happy and fulfilled life is owning more and more expensive possessions?

But in its defense, at least that's an accurate depiction of middle-class life...or at least the life all advertisers are trying to sell to us.

I'm laughing and being horrified at the same time. It is hilarious in its stupidity,
but sadly a lot of young girls would want to play it, since they think appearance and a boyfriend is all that matters.

I see it as a game for young Paris Hilton fans that simply don't know better,
and I can imagine trophy wives buying it for their daughters,
but intelligent beings should do all they can to talk them out of it...
"Trophy wives"

what are you, an alpha male?
Disliking a term doesn't make a phenomenon disappear from society.

From time to time, unintelligent, uneducated, young, highly physically attractive women sometimes still marry rich older men. They then sometimes adopt a sense of entitlement, as if their husband's accomplishments are their own. Someone could go through all the description I just did, or they could just use the appropriate term... "trophy wife". If they choose option B, that makes them succinct, not sexist.

I didn't call him sexist, I just asked a question in return to his phrasing

This.

And for the record I am female and I do enjoy shooting things and exploring alien worlds. A lot. I also enjoy mercilessly hacking monsters to bits in medieval settings and creeping along rooftops to skillfully assassinate my targets.

Good thing this article is tongue-in-cheek, even if it wasn't I don't think I could take it seriously.
