Finally Got a Wii Zapper... hold on a second... what's it supposed... to do?

This afternoon I finally got the chance to spend my Christmas money on whatever I wanted, and with about an hour and a half of bargian hunting I managed to stumble across the Wii Zapper and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. 'Hmm...' I thought, "This looks fun." So I bought it. Upon returnign hom I swiftly opened the Zapper's boc to discover that it was basicly a light gun... holder... Following the instructions I quickly assembled it to find, that it has virtually done nothing to the Wii Remote controller or Nunchuck attatchment, other than manage the slightly annoying wire our of the way. Granted it looks cool and makes me feel like I'm up to date with the latest hard ware, but can someone tell what's the point? I mean, all they've done is made things neater, and in terms of playing Umbrella Chronicle, they've made it harder to reach the "A" button and made it even harder to shake the Wii Remote for the "God of War" inspired reaction commands.

I ask this, are there any possible reasons, other than money, that Nintendo would make such a device?

Short answer, No. Long answer, No they just want to waste your money. I was thinking of getting but after looking into it I saw that it would only ruin most Wii games from my point of view. The Wii is inovative in the sense of using the controller for the actions, not as much the buttons but the actions you preform with it. I then learnt that it pretty much ruined all the special actions for Medal of Honor Heroes II and immidiatly stopped myself from buying it. Besides, there are more controllers for the Wii than the amount of Grunts you kill in all the Halo series put together. And if you need to buy a special attachment for a game, take a step back and think, "Wait... Isn't this suposed to be the one universal controller? Something's gone wrong here, fore my spidersenses are tingling".

The point is that in the box is Link's Crossbow Training. The Zapper might as well be a free gift as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't hurt that the casing feels extremely solid and has a nice weight to it. Provided the lightgun games keep coming its going to prove its worth in time, and you don't have to use it for every game remember. My brother doesn't use it for Umbrella Chronicles but for some reason uses it for Mario Galaxy.

I thought the point of the Wii controller was taht you could wave it around like a light gun. This seems like a big ol' pit Nintendo expects you to throw money into. May God have mercy on your misled soul.

I can't really be bothered with the weird strap-ons for the Wii remote. For this christmas I didn't get a Wii zapper, however, my brother got these third-party plastic... strap-ons for the Wii Sports. Completely useless.

The worst part? With no instructions in or on the box, we never managed to put them on.

While on the subject of Link's Crossbow training, and umbrella Chronicles, I have to say Crossbow Training is a lot better than I expected it to be. For one thing, it actually uses the Zapper to a decent effect... Unlike Umbrella Chronicles... which keeps asking you to grow an extra finger so you can reach the A button for "God of war esque" button mashing sequences. But fun with another person.

Well, in terms of seeling something just to get my money... I have to ask who doesn't sell me something for the money?

Well, I'm keeping the Zapper anyway because it at least gives me something to show off to people who don't own a Wii or in any case use to beat oncoming Wii thieves over the head with in the middle of the night... sorry paranoia is stting in again.

In Umbrella Chronicles, you can change the controls to "Wii Zapper" to use Z instead of A. I prefer that control setting (and I don't even have a zapper), as it makes one hand control the knife actions, and the other for the gun.

Can I ask why you decided to quote me "10 Dollar Bagel" and change what I actually said?

Also, after reading the manual (out of frustration) for Umbrella Chronicles, I've now realised the different setting... Makes it alot easier though I still don't see the point of the Zapper. I mean, all it's doing NOW is holding my Remote in place... and has a kind of handle with a larger trigger button...

The zapper, at the core, has no point really.
Much like having a lightgun instead of a penlight with a button on it has no point in arcades.

But don't try to tell me it's not more fun to hold onto something that very remotely resembles a plastic toy machinegun than it is to hold a TV remote and it's vibrator attachement.
Especially when you're shooting the flying heck out of zombies with a submachine gun.

I see your point... blasting Zombies with toy machine gun seems better than shooting them with a remote... Hmm... I can also say that Link's Crossbow Training is pretty good.

There are better controllers than this zapper.

Its just a frame to hold the wiimote and nunchuck to make it feel like you're holding a gun (a child friendly non realistically shaped gun obviously) for people who lack imagination, theres been 3rd party versions of this that look much better since the wii's release

Nintendo seem more interested in releasing pointless crap like this instead of decent games that actually make motion control worth anything

I personally don't see why anyone would need a device that holds the Wiimote toward the TV for them...
