Firefly Writers Compiling New Anthology

Dust off your browncoats, a new collection of original Firefly [http://www.amazon.com/Firefly-Complete-Nathan-Fillion/dp/B0000AQS0F/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1280783986&sr=1-1] stories is being put together by Titan Books.

Jane Espenson, the writer of Firefly episode "Shindig," revealed an upcoming collection of new stories set in the Firefly universe while she was out promoting the ScifiWire [http://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica/e/B001CH89SU/ref=sr_tc_img_2_0?qid=1280784069&sr=1-2-ent]: "Titan Books is putting together a collection written by various of the Firefly writers."

Firefly is a sci-fi television series that gained much of its popularity after a premature cancellation in 2002. A feature length movie called Serenity was released to give fans some closure, but not much else has been seen of Firefly other than two comic book mini-series (and a bunch of eternally continuing fanboy love).

All we currently know is that Espenson is penning a very short story for the collection. She says: "Oh, I just came up with a very clever little short story that involves Kaylee and Wash, two characters that we haven't seen together that much ... But [it's a] very short story, ... 2,000 words." No other writers have been specifically named, nor exactly what they will be putting forward.

The Firefly television show may still be dead for now, but this new anthology could breathe a little more life into the franchise. I enjoyed the last comic book mini-series, a tale that took place before movie Dollhouse is done for [http://www.amazon.com/Serenity-Widescreen-Nathan-Fillion/dp/B000BW7QWW/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1280784111&sr=1-1]?

Must... have... right... now...

I am gonna be all over this the second it comes out! I'd better dust off my camping-outside-stores-waiting-for-releases gear.

Well I do believe I just did this. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLnWf1sQkjY]

Speaking of Firefly anyone know where I can obtain the comics that take place before Serenity? I'd like to read them.

*hums 'ballad of serenity'*

Shiny, now if Joss would just get his hands on the firefly-license.

When's it out and why can't I preorder it yet? I loved the two Serenity conics, isn't a third one meant to be about Book's backstory? (Unless it's already out and I've totally missed it)

Yes, awesome! But what ever happened toA Sheperd's Tale? The one focusing on Sheperd Book?

Regardless, Kaylee and Wash, brilliant!

If Firefly finds it niche in comics when it didn't in TV, then I say, that's shiny! There's basically a full year between the events of Serenity and the last episode, so we can get more Wash and Book goodness, and then there is always Post-Serenity as well.

Your local comic shop should have the trade paperback, if not the back issues. Sometimes book stores carry the trade paperbacks in their graphic novels sections. They're usually between $15-20.

The one you're referring to is Serenity: Those Left Behind. Another three issues were published more recently with the subtitle, Better Days. A Shepherd's Tale and The Other Half have also been announced.

They have been collected in two trade paperback volumes. The first is pretty much mandatory Firefly reading in my opinion.

Anyway, just glad we're getting a bit of an "expanded universe." With all the background put into the show's world, it's a real shame they were only able to explore a season's worth of the world.

Well I certainly did not just spew delicious hot chocolate over myself, now if you'll excuse me I need to replace these trousers for no apparent reason.

Sounds awesome, I really wish somone(SciFi) would pay for some more seasons of this show, or make another movie before the movie Serenity(maybe a movie of the comics, I don't know I haven't read them however I am planning to soon).

I'm genuinely curious: Does anybody that clicked on this story not know that? Haha, especially on a nerdy gaming site like this (not being judgemental, it's a good thing!)

But anyways, this I will buy. Day one. No question.
