It's not the fact it's Russia, so much the fact that it's Soviet Union that developers will not make realistic Russian battles in WWII. Kinda like "Look at this great empire that we destroyed" deal.
I don't really think "great empire that we destroyed" is an accurate phrase to use but I know what you're saying. However, it's also the fact that most casual gamers from the US would rather play as an American, so making it about the American's involvement in WWII sells better.

I think CoD should stick with modern fictional wars, that way I can play it without thinking 'ugh, that's not historically accurate' or 'that's unrealistic' and enjoy it a bit more.

CoD5 will be console only and Infinity Ward will not be making this (they will be making CoD6 tho). This will leave many people disappointed, just like CoD3.
No, actually, it's gonna be on the PC too. Did Treyarch not get the job, as the Activision CEO didn't confirm? Maybe.
Im surprised about it being on PC if its the case, my source> Click! [http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/callofduty5/news.html?sid=6190641&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;3]

I found an article over at Gamespot that states the CoD5 will have a "Major Chapter" in which it portrays the invasion of Germany by Russia. Looks like we will be playing as Russians.

Calling it now: I want COD5 to focus on the Pacific Campaign of WWII, possibly including the battles of Guadalcanal, Leyte Gulf, Iwo Jima, and the Phillipines. There are so few WWII games based around the Pacific, yet none of them - save MOH: Pacific Assault, which I haven't played but heard good things about - really do the campaign any justice. It's a crime and should be paid with capital punishment, and until it happens I will continue to wait patiently.

*waits patiently*

"Guys, we were joking. Call of Duty: World at War is gonna take place at D-Day, Battle of Stalingrad, and a fictional S.A.S. mission."

No. I wanna burn the forests. With flames...

I read that the graphics on the PS3 version will be far behind that of the 360 and PC versions.

Cheers! :)

Since Treyarch are developing this, I see little to encourage me into buying this tbh. Save Your monies and wait for CoD6 :)

Put on your flame suit boys.
Bear in mind that was an unbiased comment coming from a PS3 owner.
Link? Only 1 "m" in coming.
Not 100% reliable but its what someone posted on another forum after reading Play Magazine
some guy said:
reading the preview in new play mag, im kinda doubting this game now, the mag says at the moment the graphics on the ps3 version are behind the pc and 360 version. last parag in mag reads
"our main concern with the enviroments, however is that they wont look as up to scratch as their pc and xbox360 counterparts-actually,this is a concern that applies to every graphical aspect of the game. the ps3 version of world at war, unfortunately, looks like its behind every other iteration,in terms of graphical detail.'

another bit about a on the rails level stated
"an on the rails section, which we initially thought would be promising, tunrned out to be the most cliched and humdrum add-on that could possibly have been concieved.taking place on a pby catalina, one of the usa best multi-purpose aircraft in wwII, this week level basically boiled down to shooting explosive barrels, on the decks of many battleships, although its possible to switch between areas of the plane, for better accuracy, this sort of diversion is the exact type of pitfall that treyarch should be avoiding"

I wish I'll finally see a WW2 game in which the Americans realise that the war didn't start with Pearl Harbour. So far 95% of American WW2 Media(Games,Movies etc.) fail to acknowledge that there's been a war(three years precisely) before "THE" United States decided to join and "kick Nazi's asses".

Honestly, patriotism crap aside, why does everybody only focus on the 1944-1945? Yes,that's the time when we finally overcame the Nazi's and Americans took most of the credit(j/k) but for the love of god, it seems like nothing ever happened in 1937-1943(Yes, 1937 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Sino-Japanese_War)

Treyarch consists of former Grey Matter. The guys that made Return to Castle Wolfenstein.THAT Wolfenstein. The one with Zombies and Nazis!

I've got a feeling that after reading this, CoD5 will now be played by every single person on these forums.Just for the sake of Zombies. After all think about all the shit Japanese did to their prisoners...

i wouldn't mind WW2 games if they didnt omit other allies contribution, (I guess im really just talking about the Medal of Honour series) but i guess this extends to the wider culture of WW2 in the media. Kids are gonna start thinking it was the U.S. vs the rest of the world soon! Rule Brittania and her empires :p peace :)
