First Look at the Sailor Moon Crystal Character Designs

I was never into Sailor Moon. I only seen bits of it here and there, as my sister was a fan. I was too busy with my Pokemans.

That being said though, I'm strangely looking forward to the new anime. I'm interested in seeing how it turns out. The new designs look great, still keeping the spirit of the original.

Yup!...though it does raise one important concern of mine. Animators. Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Saturn. NOW!

EDIT: On a side note...the Hell is that thing Venus is wearing around her waist?

Wow, over a decade later and Sailor Mercury is still hot--er, I mean, uh...they all look great! Yeah, that's what I mean!

Ah, yes. I used to have a crush on Mercury too. When I was her age. Now it just makes me feel awkward.

The designs look a bit odd. Let's see how they look in the actual animation...

They look as they always have...with those twiggy necks and legs that make up 3/4 of their body length. I like anime, but the style of Sailor Moon and many other shows from that era just doesn't click with me.

Madoka, Nanoha, Pretty Cure, etc. have all evolved the magical girl genre. This seems (character design wise) as a throwback to the 90's, not necessarily bad but when compared to the cool designs that the characters from Nanoha have; there's really not much to be excited about here :/

Oh well, according to ANN the new series will only last 26 episodes and personally,
I can hardly imagine that this amount is enough to cover all 5 major story arcs maybe 1 or at best 2 of them,
if they really are gonna remove all filler content from the original series and follow the manga as faithfully as possible.

So thus this indicate, that there will be again several seasons one for each major story arc minus all the filler episodes?

Or is Toei Animation trying to reconfirm if Sailor Moon is still remotely popular and because of that,
are attemping to play it save and only produce 26 epsiodes untill they are certain,
that its still viable and lucrative enough to announce further seasons/episodes?

Kotono's back?! SWEEET!!!!! Far as I'm concerned, there IS no other Usagi! (...well, except maybe Anza, but she's only known about outside Japan to the more hardcore fans.)

Gotta say, I do like the designs. Age-appropriate proportions[footnote]That is to say, the complete lack of.[/footnote] aside, they look like they're supposed to but also distinct from the original anime by apparently having more detail and slightly less bright colors. Nice to see Sailor Moon's hairpins right from the start, too.

Now, let's see if they actually use the manga characterizations, which IMO are superior to the anime ones.

Hopefully they show nipples again.

The original anime only showed a nipple once, and even then it was in silhouette. At least as far as I can remember.

Hmm, never really watched Sailor Moon although I was aware of it as a child. It wasn't broadcast where I was living but one of my classmates bought them on VHS (wow it really was a long time ago). I'll probably give this a shot, see what I missed out on back in the day. Will be interesting watching this after seeing things like Madoka I think.

Holy dated anime look batman. Sure looks like something from 90's lol. Is this going to be all hand drawn or will Inuyasha still remain the last completely hand drawn anime to exist? Just curious.

Inuyasha is not completely hand draw, they switched away from hand draw during season 4.
