Fixing the "Deadzone" of a 360 controller when using it for a PC?

Ok, so I've been using my 360 controller as a PC gamepad for a while now. Sadly, the analog has gotten a tiny bit messed up.

The analog is always tilting very slightly upwards. So when I play a game with it (let's say psychonauts), then I will always be moving forward VERY VERY slowly even when I'm not touchign the analog. As you can imagine, in certain games this gets super annoying.

I heard that it's possible to adjust the deadzone for analog sticks, but I'm not sure how to do it. Any pointers?

*Currently running windows 7*

Ok, so I messed around a lot with the settings, and I found a calibration option.

Now I have the following question:
What the heck is the different between the X axis, the Y axis and the Z axis?

I assume X means left and right, and Y means up and down (IE, forward and back), so what the heck is the Z axis?

Z axis is the point of control in 3d space. So look at is as if X = left/right Y= Up/down Z= in/out

Edit: Also, beyond calibration, it might help to overwrite existing supported gamepad configuration in favor of xpad, so as to be able to freely calibrate dead zone. Plus.. if your playing PC with a gamepad very often its something you should likely be doing for non gamepad supported titles.

In and out? On an analog stick? 0_o Wha? That's more recognized as a button on most controllers...

I fiddled around some more and found out that my Z axis is mapped to the left and right triggers for some reason...But whatever.

Thanks for the help. Once my exams are over, I'll try again to get this deadzone fixed.
