I still can't imagine this will be anything even remotely resembling good.

Because we obviously need Flash Gordan to be more "edgy".

I dislike a great deal of many modern reboots.

"Flash Gordon is arguably one of the biggest icons of the science-fiction genre."

Eh? Really?

Maybe he was, but you'll be arguing a lot before you convince me he is now.
I think he means he was around before star trek/star wars came out, but I would say he didn't have that big of an impact on the genre.

So, that means that anything that was unique to the 1980 movie won't make an appearance, especially the Queen theme song.
No...NO....NOOOOOO! WE NEED THAT SONG!
$10 says that is the song that starts the ending credits... He'll come around before then.

No epic Queen soundtrack? No hilariously hokey production values? No BRIAN BLESSED?!?!?!

What the hell would I want to watch it for, then?
Instinctual curiosity?

On topic, I'll mark this one for further curosity. So far, it sounds like it's going to not be as good as the 1980's movie...

The Syfy show deserved none of the 4.5 out of 10 stars it got on IMDB. It was utter shit, its good start when a director acknowledges crap is crap and wants to start fresh

(3D) Flash Gordon
Phew! and there I thought that "3D" display would never feature in such films.

I don't think Flash can be good, from what I gather his personality is rather bland and stands out no more than a U.S jock with at little bit of a sci-fi crave who's to ashamed to admit it.

I'd like to watch this, but I just know every time it starts I'll get "Science Fiction Double Feature" from Rocky Horror stuck in my head.

Well, I can sort of see this working, but they need to keep the camp. No camp, no Flash Gordon. I'd be very disappointed if this just became another bland sci-fi show.

By the way, The Crazies is actually a George Romero film, not a Wes Craven one.

Well, no Flash Gordon, no Star Wars, and probably no Star Trek either.
That is true, but I still would not consider him one of the most important modern icons of the genre. One of the most influential perhaps, but not an icon.

Flash is the product of a diferent generation. Influential definatly, perhaps the worlds first space opera. Most kids will have no idear who he is.My thoughts about it are that the 80's film, love it or hate it is now ingrained on the majority of people who remember him. I think if a writer is going to reinvent him it has to stay away from the camp tongue in cheek style of that film while staying true to the original comic roots. I don't know if it can be done, just look at what hapened with the ill fated tv series. I loved the 80's version. The soundtrack was incredible, Brian Blessed is a legend. Intersted to see how the reinvention turns out though either way.
