As I wait for my shiney new copies of Deus Ex and Half-Life one to arrive I have been finding things to pass the time. And here, I will review one of these things, a quirky platformer called Exit Time.

Gameplay:

Run, jump, aviod death traps. That's it in a nutshell, but the gameplay is half Mario, half Sands of Time. Your guy runs to the end of a linear level. Sounds simple right? Wrong! Along the way, deathtraps such as axes, spikey gears, tracking lasers and dropping spikes. These are used in effective ways because at one point you find yourself being chased by 4 lasers and thousands of spikes being dropped upon you. It would be impossible if the next gameplay feature wasn't around, called "Flow." What flow does is slow down the game by a fraction of a second and allow your jumps to go further to reach places and your run increase it's speed to avoid traps. That as well as speed direction flooring, teleporters and trampolines make this game have impressive gameplay which would put Peggle to shame. It is quite hard though, because of unfair blindsiders.

Score: 9/10

Story:

You may be thinking, "Story, in a flash game? Sounds intersting!" Well I have to admit, it rips off Portal till very little remains of the story.

You are a nameless person who runs about the place taking part in deadly obstacle courses with the promis of freedom. (Remind you of anything?) Then after completing the first few missions, you are sent to a place where freedom is given, you then get placed in the back completing more deadly traps then you escape out the back. It also does the thing Portal does where on a sign it's written "There is NO freedom!" Anyway, after escpaing, you learn it's the goverment doing these harsh obstacle courses and extreme obstacle courses are facing you and escaping the city. After the extreme frame rate drop of a last level, you then see your guy running against a white background with a speech written across it. The game then cut short.

Not very original, but good enough to keep me gripped.

Score: 6/10

Extras:

There's not much to be said for extras. You can collect vairous extras for your character. But the little triangles are always in akaward positions to collect. And there's also an online XP gaining multiplayer, put like in the primative days of LAN, it's who ever has the best connection wins. i got frustrated and left.

Score: 3/10

Conclusion: 6/10

Good, but was missing a few key elements to make it really stand out against the many platformers on the internet.
