Some people might see it as mere toys, but I know that this person has a lot of emotions, sweet memories and tons of dedication put into that. Loosing that must be heartbreaking indeed.

I feel sorry for the guy but it is not lost if he tosses all of that he is an idiot most of it would probably work just fine with some diligent cleaning and drying. If he does not want to take the time to clean them he could send it all to me and I would have no problem going through and cleaning it all up. The only ones that will be really difficult would be the ones with cd rom drives as the lasers would be near impossible to get clean enough to work again.
If you got such a collection I don't think you have to doubt that he'll try his very best to save as much as he can.

Is it wrong that looking at those pictures made me feel the same as when I look at world disaster pictures? It was like looking at an orphanage that has crumbled to the ground...

Not to sound like an arse or anything, but considering the rising death toll and the number of people who've had their entire lives destroyed (and home and contents insurance is usually not covered in the case of rising water), this doesn't inspire great bouts of weeping in me. Yeah this sucks, but it could have been so much worse for him.

Just look up the SES worker who watched his wife and children carried away by flood waters and then tell me this guy is suffering.

The existance of a greater loss doesn't make any loss less than that somehow ineligible for our sympathies. Stepping on a nail still hurts like hell even if there's someone else nearby who lost a foot.

which sucks, as a gamer, I was actually working with the State Emergency Services, in a crew sent from Victoria in the recovery up in QLD (before I was sent home to work the VIC floods) and I was seeing scenes like this.

Not to mention peoples homes and some of the missing people that had just been found. It was heartrending

Very true, and I still have sympathy for this guy (never said I don't). He has lost an important part of his life, like so many others, that he will not get back (at least to the same level). I would not even try to compare any sense of loss I've felt to the loss he's probably feeling right now. But I'm a believer in putting things into perspective, and the guy who steps on a nail is still probably more concerned about the guy who lost a foot.

augh so much awesome once-mint stuff there id have given my left nut to own, the neogeo, the x68ks, the saturn variants. most of its stuff clueless insurance guys will look at and go meh old junk and give him fuck all compensation for too. makes me think its best just to keep stuff thats really important to you minimise the amount of other stuff cos it just gets in the way and make sure you have a way to pack up the important stuff and get it the fuck out quickly if you need to.

goes without saying there are lots of people who lost a lot more than him, you hear about them from other news sources and we know they're whats more important. this just points out another aspect of the disaster which wouldn't usually get reported and has special relevance to us. he may not have lost his life but he lost a big chunk of it that we share with him.

Pictures like this though really tell the story of the destruction. It seems weird though like the more Northern and Southern areas of the world are acting up. Ungodly amounts of snow here in Canada, floods in Australia. Whats going on?
maybe that global warming thats not happening?

Spot poll: how many of you even realised an area of Australia several times the size of Texas has been hit by one of the worst natural disasters in our history until you read this thread?

Oh I had one of those! And one of those! And one of those! Oh and one of those!...

Only one thing to do now, dunk em in water, get that mud out, set them to dry and see what still works.

with one victim that even the most self-centered jerk will feel for
Oh, what, you mean one of the few that died?

Oh no, you mean someone who's suffered sentimental and property damage. One of thousands like him.

Perspective, much?
