Welcome! This could be interesting.

I'm something of a fair weather horror fan myself. There are certain works that absolutely do it for me, but I find the vast majority don't. I'm definitely more into the more psychological and supernatural end of horror as opposed to the body horror or torture porn stuff. I like it when my psychological stuff does end up having a more tangible aspect to it though. *shrug*

Sweet!

And welcome to the fold! I do enjoy me some horror, and while not all of it scares I do think it's an interesting genre. Psychological horror is probably my favorite and what really scares the hell out of me. Trashy horror is pretty fun, but I will say torture porn is pretty boring to me. Not quite sure what that says about me, but there you go.

Can't wait to read more from you. :D

Sounds good to me, welcome to the fold Devan! Look forward to reading some of your reportings and musings on one of my favorite story-telling genres. I actually became obsessed with horror in my teens, partially because my parents restricted any and all horror stories from me for years. The genre has fascinated me for a long time, though I tend to enjoy the stranger, mysterious side of horror more than the ultra-violent, brutal, gorey side. :p

Oh neat! looking forward to reading more from you Devan. I'm becoming more and more interested in the horror genre, especially since I've started reading some of H.P. Lovecraft's work.

Ah, a horror writer.
Not only am I glad to see that "Horror Writers" still actually exist out there, but I am sure happy that I can see another writer's work.

Welcome to the site and I shall look forward to your work, hopefully I can learn from this future experience. ^_^

Welcome, Mr. Sagliani. I appreciate the breadth of media you've mentioned in your introduction, and I'll look forward to seeing your column.

A slight side note: I remember that a couple of decades ago a survey was done of which celebrities responded most pleasantly to requests for autographs and which ones were the most unpleasant. The meanest were comedians; I believe Rosanne Barr and Bill Cosby both ranked high on the list. But equally interesting was that two of the kindest were Vincent Price and Robert Englund (of Freddy Krueger fame.) Perhaps there's something in horror that is good for us. (Or at least, good for those with a hand in its creation.)

Yeah, I really understand that. When I was between 18 and my mid-twenties, I could have watched hours of splatter and gore, without getting bored, but these days, I prefer the horror of the mind. Not to say, that there haven´t always been prodigys like Cronenberg, who seemed to be able, to merge both of them, with seemingly no effort.

Ha, that's pretty funny to know. "Watch more Horror, it makes you better people." Tonight on CNN.
Except didn't Robert Englund suffer actual psychological trauma as a result of playing Freddy for so long?

For all the people here who like psychological horror - you should definitely check out The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh.

I had heard that he had suffered some nightmares of his own, but I hadn't heard of any more significant trauma. What had you heard?

Just watched it last night and it's earned a top spot on my horror list. I've seen reviews talk about how the ending has no "payoff", but I have to disagree. The themes the movie explores really resonate with me so that may be a reason I enjoyed the whole film, but I found the conclusion very satisfying and it fits the story. The only aspect I felt could've been handled better is certain "things" not being shown as much on camera as their horror worked best when in the shadows. I'm eager to see what other feature length films the director makes, and I suggest watching his short films if you enjoyed this.

Devan's been an influence on my own writing, he's a great cheerleader...which a sick and twisted soul. Love it!

Welcome dude!

I like my Horror (films) "strange, mysterious and ultra-violent, brutal and gory" like Martyrs, Inside and High Tension to name a few.

Welcome to The escapist!

I absolutely love horror, especially from the works of H.P Lovecraft, Stephen King and Edgar Allen Poe, all of whom I have grown up reading, courtesy of my dad's book collection. I look forward to reading the rest of your articles.

Couldn't agree with you more, SKBPinkie. The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh is a gem of well-crafted psychological horror on a small-scale film. The actor Aaron Poole does an terrific job but the film has sublime technique in making the inanimate objects and setting of the house the true star of the narrative. I can't recommend it enough, especially to aspiring and amateur filmmakers. I would very much like Mr. Sagliani to make this little-known gem a subject for analysis.
