Former Activision exec Dusty Welch says his new studio intends to "dethrone" Call of Duty with a top-quality, free-to-play shooter that runs in a browser.
So, basically, he failed already. Coming at Call of Duty with what will basically amount to the Runescape of military FPS games? Yeah, I'm sure Activision is worried. And yeah, when you say you goal is to dethrone Call of Duty rather than to just make a great game, that doesn't exactly make me look forward to whatever you're making.

If the studio can do it, more power to them. However, unless Welch means the quality of the shooter will surpass Call of Duty, I can't see the studio creating something more popular or more wealthy than the sales monstrosity known as COD.

No! No one is that much of a dick to name his company in leet T.T" You can give out free diamonds I'm not gonna accept it from someone that's named "U4iA" much less buy a game from them, it can't be taken serious...

Well, good luck with that. CoD will be dethroned someday by something, but I have a feeling it won't be this. Though he can feel free to prove me wrong.

Anyone else feel the urge to stove in his head with a lead pipe after reading the name of his company?
*raises hand* similar feelings were felt when seeing the MW3 trailer, though no where near this strong.

OT: So, he thinks he dethrone both Call of Duty, and since it's free-to-play, Team Fortress 2, with a company called "U4iA"?

I'm all for dethroning CoD but you can't do it if you're not even competing on the same platform. Trying that would be like trying to overthrow the British royal family by invading Finland. Also that's a pretty stupid name for a studio (or whatever it is).

Wait, wasn't the first CoD developed exclusively by Infinity Ward, before they got bought? I remember Activision as only the publisher.

Also, I kind of like the name. It stands out; even though that won't stop Yahtzee from making fun of it in future reviews.

Yeah...I don't think he's going to dethrone TF2 anytime soon. Poor guy. His dream ended before it even began.

"And I think that's going to help lead the new dynamic and a transition of gamers into the social"

here's the problem right here. This guy sounds like he wants to mash farmville with call of duty. Can't say I'm too excited.
