Once again, that's the post. Though he is under further investigation for more trials so his prison sentence may get longer.

France has actually been managing quite an impressive clear-out of its politicians recently - they're putting everyone else to shame.

Of course, this is also why Macron is president and his main challenger is Martine Le Pen. Long standing corruption is much of the reason that the socialists and whatever the mainstream right party is called these days have sunk themselves.

Take note America. France jails its former leader for a standard bit of corruption while America doesn't even mildly discipline their president for four long years of nothing but corruption, or him sending a mob to storm the capitol and overthrow democracy.

Sarkozy also seems to be the evil genius behind the World Cup going to Qatar, and he has some really suspicious links to Ghadafi. So all in all he seems to deserve his fate. Apparently there are still circles within the French Republicans that clamor for his return.

Good for him. 3 years in a can is tame for historical french standards.

It'll be tamer yet. Apparently its quite likely he won't actually set foot in prison, and the sentence can be served by house imprisonment.

They could always consider exiling him to Saint Helena. Or Elba. Pick one.

Not sure i get the point here. Are you suggesting that the pandemic explains/ justifies the decision to give such a lenient sentence?

I've basically been on lockdown for the past year. If you had said I was under house arrest and couldn't leave at all, my life would have changed, at most, maybe 20%.

Don't know how it is for other people.

I've really enjoyed going to the supermarket, just so I can get out a little.
It's not as fun for me because some people in my area either never got the memo on masks and social distancing, or they've decided that the pandemic is over and they don't have to anymore.
