Fox: Deadpool Movie Coming February 2016

Fan-favorite X-Men spin-off gets a Winter release date

Fans have been clamoring for a movie based on the cult-fave Marvel antihero Deadpool for about as long as the character has existed. And while a version of him appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-escapist-presents/684-MovieBob-Reviews-Wolverine-Trailer] as the setup for a potential feature starring Ryan Reynolds; the actual film has failed to materialize.

But within the last hour, Twentieth Century Fox confirmed - as part of a broader reshuffling of release dates for some of its major future properties - that they're now targeting a February 12, 2016 release date for a Deadpool movie. At this time, no information regarding casting, story or filmmakers for the prospective film has been made available; though Reynolds is still believed to be involved. Tim Miller is set to direct.

Created in 1993 by Rob Liefeld as a villain for the New Mutants, caused a stir. [http://marvel.com/universe/Deadpool_(Wade_Wilson)] When it was leaked online.

If they can stick with the feel of the proof of concept video and manage to make an appealing story, Fox might have a hit on their hands with this. I do hope they keep Ryan Reynolds, as I feel he fits the character of Deadpool quite well.

Seeing as he is known for breaking the forth wall, I wonder if they will allow the character to bring up puns and banter about other Marvel characters that aren't with Twentieth Century Fox. eg, Marvel Studios and Spider-man. Yeah, they aren't allowed too but that's what Deadpool's character is about.

I fail to see why they couldn't, puns like that would fit under fair use (parody). Weather they do it is another matter.

Hopefully they can get a good director and writer, someone who is willing to cut the fat off of Deadpool and still make an interesting story.

Deadpool can be done wrong in different ways than what happened in Origins; he can't all be jokes and murder, that works for short stories in comic books, but for a movie, the jokes get old and annoying fast. I'm not saying it can't be done, but the director really needs to know how to have quiet moments in order for the funny moments to really work.

I read the leaked script ages ago. It was AMAZING.

If they can pull it off, it'll be a crowd pleaser just as much as Guardians of the Galaxy was. Irreverent, action-packed, and joyously surprising.

... The only joke they'd need to update is an outdated Amy Winehouse joke... But the rest of the script was one of the most entertaining things I've ever had the joy of reading and was 100% Deadpool.

You know what they need to do to make this worK?

Just use a good Deadpool story as the script. That's all. No reimagining the character. No trying to create a universe. Just a regular Deadpool script.

If they get rid of the box office poison that is Ryan Reynolds, I'll get interested in this again. Have yet to see a movie of his I liked or liked him in. And I don't want him touch Deadpool at this point. Odds are I'll be disappointed, but we'll see.

Weirdly I agree, this project was all his 4 or 5 years ago but I think his time has passed.

The only thing I worry about is that it's a February release which is typically considered a graveyard month. However, it is Deadpool and I hope to The One Above All that it does the character justice

Hmm ... it just occurred to me that they couldn't do Bob: Agent of Hydra as a supporting character since Hydra is with marvel/disney. I guess the door is still open for Weasel.

If this is a hit I wonder if they'll ever do Cable & Deadpool. That was a great series.

Oh God yes. That proof of concept made me want this movie so bad.

Please, pleeeease don't break the 4th wall too much... The amount in the CGI concept trailer was good, but don't come with that "voices in his head" crap or the way too over the top dumbness of the game. 4th wall breaking is fine, but don't make deadpool into a looney toon.

WOuld love an R rated version of Deadpool. Only thing is, depending on cost, it may be PG13. It is a hard movie to sell to people who dont know the character....i can only imagine what they will think of the crazy trailers. :)

Aw c'mon, give him a chance in this one. He did pretty nicely in the proof of concept clip, if I do say so myself.

If it does end up being PG13, then there better be an unrated Blu-Ray version to follow right behind it...

OT: Really hoping Ryan's still going to be Deadpool... but mostly because the trailer promos can make a "Rated R for Reynolds" joke...
