I hadn't meant to say that it was deep social commentary, just that the immaturity of it was the joke. That is to say that Duke Nukem is a self-aware expression of immaturity. If I were to try and express it more clearly than I was before, I would say that there are two types of immaturity. There is genuine immaturity, that is to say that the person making the immature thing has no idea how immature it is. When you laugh at its immaturity, you also laugh at the creator (whether you meant to or not) because it is a genuine reflection of immaturity. But the second type of immaturity is that possessed by Duke Nukem. The people at Gearbox are clearly aware of how immature the game is, and they're creatively working to make it as over the top immature as possible. Unlike the first type of immaturity, where the creator is the actual joke, in the case of Duke Nukem it is the creation itself that is the joke.

Likewise, there are two groups of people who will play Duke Nukem, those who will laugh at it, and those who will laugh at its immaturity. I think my fear here is that the assumption made of gamers by the non-gaming public (and anyone who doesn't realize that Duke is a joke) is that they are laughing at Duke Nukem as opposed to laughing at its immaturity.
Ok, I sorta get what you mean, but I'm not sure if that's what they are going for.

For example, just refering to the sex. It's been pointed out on the forums time and again that scanitly clad females don't hurt sales, large breasts appeal to certain demographic, and so on. This is generally seem as a normal part of the gaming industry.

But in regards to DNF, it's totally not about sex, it's about laughing at the how it's portrayed? Presumably, then, it's marketed at those who aren't too happy with sex in games, and not at that who want to see more of it? I have a hard time buying that. DNF seems to be awfully close to being what people say it's parodying, though we'll have to wait and see to be sure.
Yes, perhaps it is just my hopeful naiveté that has lead me to look at Duke Nukem as a self aware piece of immaturity. But, you're right, it could be that they've decided to forego all attempts to maintain some dignity and chosen to simply pander to the lowest common denominator. And, if that's the case, then it's my unfortunate duty to agree with Fox News on this one game. That sucks, because it would be a struggle for me to be any more liberal, and to call Fox a strange bedfellow would be an understatement of epic proportions, but if Duke really is trying to sell not to audiences that want to laugh at something immature but that want something immature, then it deserves some measure of ire.
Hypocrite much? You watch anime, one of the most highly sexist forms of entertainment out there.

Seriously, what's with you? You obviously never played Duke Nukem if you "agree with Fox news on this one". SERIOUSLY MAN?

It's called humor, context, and fantasy. Here, I'll break it down for YOU the "lowest common denominator"

Aliens invade the world; all the men are turned into pig-cops, the women are being abducted, Duke Nukem is unaffected because he's like the Chuck Norris of the story; all the women look at him as a hero to save them; they all love him and fall at his feet. It's a classic game full of parodies of classic movies/games etc. To call it sexist is RETARDED, because it's making fun of sexism itself.

Get a clue. Honestly!

OT: Yeah, this was sort of expected. Too bad Fox have used up all of their game controversy cards on Mass Effect and Manhunt years ago.

This is totally unrelated, but I'm watching YouTube videos and surfing The Escapist simultaneously and when I glanced at your comment, somebody in the video said "who gives a fuck".

Scary.
Lmao, that's quite awesome.

I love the part where she says this is harmful to young woman. Because this idiot thinks that we are all sheep, and that all men will become Duke Nukem impersonators and all twin asain girl his willing whores.

Its like Inception with Irony. The first level of irony is the game itself, lampooning the idea of manliness. The next level is Fox blasting the game not because anyone of them really cares, but only because it gets their demographic in a froth. The last level is that people think that what we see in video games is what we become in real life, when pretty much everyone is able to separate the video game worlds we frequent from reality.
But...

What'll we find down there?
The ultimate refutation of societal cliche: to be able to see the everyone you meet and judging them not upon who they are at first glance but by their actions and what they hold to be true and just.

America is the country where you can watch people get murdered on stuff like CSI or Law & Order but if there is even a hint of sexual nudity, someone's gonna get sued.

Comedians and comedy movies can do this, but comedic games can't. Can't the media ever let us have a little fun once in a while? I'm not going through another Mass Effect fiasco.

So first off, thank you for reading all of my earlier posts, understanding the context of what I actually said, and realizing that you were reading the last point I was making in a conversation in which I expressed my hope that Duke Nukem would be exactly what you said, a joke about sexism and immaturity, and not what I was talking about in the last post, a pandering attempt to just reel in anyone who would pay $60 for a game with boobs. If you will notice in the post I was responding to, the poster said that he felt that DNF was coming dangerously close to being what people said it was parodying, and my last post was expressing that my earlier posts could have been wrong, and that while I believed it was a parody I could be wrong. I was admitting that I, like all humans, am unable to know all things, and I despite my opinions on what the game would be like, I could be wrong.

Secondly, thank you for making some really big assumptions about me, like that I watch all anime, based on my avatar. In case you wanted to know the truth though, no, I don't watch all anime. You are right that a lot of anime is incredibly immature and sexist, but as a general rule if I start watching a series and it's like that, then I stop watching it. Saying that all anime is sexist and immature is like saying that all games are sexist and immature, there are some sexist and immature games, but that doesn't mean that they all are. You don't have to take my word for it, but shows like Mushishi (featured in my avatar), Kino's Journey, Ghost Hound, Ergo Proxy, and Serial Experiments Lain, tend to skip the immaturity and titties in favor of examining the human condition, exploring philosophy and metaphysics, or looking at the world in ways that most of us haven't taken the time to look at it; incidentally, these happen to be my favorite shows.

Finally, you seem to be pretty new to this forum (under 200 posts, and joined in January) so, instead of hitting the report button and earning you some moderator wrath, I'm going to give you a little bit of advice. If you disagree with someone, instead of expressing it as a personal attack (calling them hypocrites, blatantly implying that they're stupid, etc...) stick to the rules of civil debate and express the areas where your opinion differs from theirs, pointing out flaws with what they've said or strengths of your argument without implying that their value as a human being is less than yours. We like to stick to adult conversation here, and I've seen people get probations and suspensions for phrasing their arguments like you've phrased yours.

Ouran high school host club, Vash the Stampede, Soul Eater, the list goes on and on...I dunno what Anime you watch, but the ones my girlfriend and I watch are far from sexist.

God forbid we stray from the usual murder of thousands of people online and play Duke Nukem. Fox News has one thing in common with all other news stations: they're idiots.

The reason it's a topic is the same reason it was a topic when they found out about the supreme court hearing the law against videogames.

BECAUSE IT IS A BACKWARDS VIEWPOINT. It is offensive to all gamers and really all intelligent people.
its a duke nukem game man and a sequel. its one of many branches of the gameing tree and you know what? sometimes people want to play the stupid game because its stupid. calm down and think this through my friend for every duke nukem theres a mass effect or bioshock.

allow me to be more clear, the crap Fox is trying to pull is backward and offensive. NOT the game. I for one very much enjoy mindless games. Duke Nukem is part of what makes Gaming whole, like you said it's one of MANY gaming branches.

A new videogame that requires you to abduct women
Wierd i got the impression you had to save them from abduction.

"It was offensive then and it's even more offensive now," Jamia Wilson, vice president of the Women's Media Center, told FoxNews.com. "These depictions of women are extremely harmful, especially to young women," she added.
Laughed my ass of at that one. Not like the fashion models did the same for young women for ages now by letting then think being that bony/thin is attractive and natural.

the other points are already pointed out here
Agreed, the Video Game industry has always been the scapegoat to issues dealing with adolescents. Video Games cause kids to start school shootings, Video Games teach women to become hookers.

I don't see the movie industy getting jumped for creating torture fests like SAW and how it could influence some psycho into creating gadgets similar to the movie. Did anyone hear about the women who designed a working reverse bear trap and killed someone with it? Also What about the porn industry? People keep talking about "We need to pass .xxx" or something, yet when the industry goes to court, nothing happens because they hide under the First Ammendment yet judges claim that the video game industry has no protection, its all bullshit and I better stop or else this is going to go one for pages.

Jesus christ, you don't need to be a brain surgeon to see that its a parody. I could tell from 10 seconds of the trailer that it wasn't serious and I am unashamedly slow!

I'm so sorry your royal highness, I will forever fear you reporting me for stating my opinion of a video game on a video game forum. I'm so beneath you with my low post count and join date. If only I could prove to you that I've been reading and posting on forums since 1996!

I'm sorry that I found it ridiculous that you would find DNF immature and that you would actually side with Fox News on it.

I'm so sorry that I judged you based on an image specifically meant to represent yourself.

I know that not all anime are sexist.. I enjoy quite a few; however I was trying to prove a point. Just as easily as you insulted DNF, I was trying to show you how easy it is to insult anime. Both acts are ridiculous and I think you could learn to watch what you say just as much as I could.

Might I add the game isn't even out yet and you think you know everything about it, without evening playing it?

Good day!
