Free Xbox Live Gold This Weekend

Or slightly later, if you happen to be in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Mexico and Japan.

"Have you ever wanted to check out the entertainment experiences and apps on Xbox Live?" asks Microsoft. Well, your ship has finally come in, as Microsoft is opening up its Gold vaults to customers in a select group of countries. You'll get access to pretty much everything Gold has to offer, from October 4th to 6th. Where do you have to be in order to receive this bounty? Weeeeeelll ...

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and Vietnam. It probably helps if you pretend this is a Broadway musical, so try to end it on a high note. You know, 'aaaaaaand VIetNAAAM!'

Of course, there are countries other than, say, Vietnam, who aren't getting bounty this weekend. Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico will be getting theirs on October 11th to 14th, while Japan will get it on November 7th to 10th.

Most of those countries aren't among the lucky 13 that will be getting Xbox One at launch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126850-Xbox-One-Will-Launch-In-Just-13-Countries]. Some - like Japan and South Korea - may not get it until 2014, or later.

When you sign up for these free promotions you're actually required to start charging a credit card, it's just that they start you off with a $0 charge. My only logical guess is that with this extra small window, they're hoping many people will forget to unsubscribe before the two days are up. Call me cynical, but they just finished up "Free Xbox Gold September" so I'm a bit confuse as to why they're already doing another promotion in such a limited awkward fashion.

Not seeing anything like that in the fine print of this promo. It reads like they're simply enabling Gold within an entire region.

I remember the promo you mentioned. And I'm pretty sure it was a "buy 5, get 1 free" type of deal.

If they do require a CC to be entered for this coming weekend, then forget it.

Addendum: There is an "additional subscription/fees may be required". Guess we'll have to see. :/
They could be refering to netflix etc, the subscriptions that they lock behind their subscription because well subscription.....

.... yeah its a rip off, but a few days free are nice.

Does anyone know if this will be IP-based or not? I have a UK account but live on Malta (most of us Maltese have a UK account because reasons) and am curious if this will apply to me or not.

Great timing! I'm looking forward to trying GTA Online.
