Quite a few giveaways lately. Either they're being nice, or it's a ploy to lure us to their online stores. All things considered, I'm banking on the latter. Today, for you:

[HEADING=2]Child Of Light [https://register.ubisoft.com/child-of-light/en-US][/HEADING]

Child Of Light will be free on Uplay until March 28th at 02:00PM (your local time). To grab it, click the link above, make sure you're logged into your Ubisoft account and just click the button with the keyboard that says PC. Mind you, this of course requires the Uplay Launcher.

Aurora, a young girl from 1895 Austria, awakens on the lost fairytale continent of Lemuria. To return home she must fight against the dark creatures of the Queen of the Night, who have stolen the sun, the moon and the stars. At stake is not only Lemuria, but Aurora?s true destiny.

Have a look if interested and enjoy.

I've had this in my steam inventory for years. I keep meaning to play it and just never find the right time. There's always another game I want to play more in front of me.

Also, I'm reminded of this old strip.

No idea if it's right but I do get a chuckle out of it.

I could never really pin it down, but that comic nails it.

I actually enjoyed my time with Child of Light because it is an uncomfortable mixture of whimsical fantasy and dark austerity. It?s like the manifestation of a child?s coping mechanisms during a traumatic point in their life, i.e.: mommy isn?t in the hospital with cancer, she?s being held prisoner in a tower by an evil wizard. Have you ever seen the movie Pan?s Labyrinth? Child of Light is very much THAT movie less some of the more overt darkness and violence. For free, I?d say it?s worth it, a charming, turn-based fantasy RPG with a surprising amount of freedom of movement around the 2D environments.

yeah, that's the impression I got from it too. the constant underlying sense of something not quite right, a hanging cadence of tradegy through a lens of innocence and an unreliable reality. I kinda dig those unsettling atmospheres
