Hey, you guys remember Phil Fish? He made a game once. Today, for you:

[HEADING=2]Fez [https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/fez/home][/HEADING]

Fez will be free at Epic Games Store until August 29nd. As always, you can get the game through the link above, or straight from the Epic Games launcher. Either way, the game will be added directly to your Epic Games library.

Gomez is a 2D creature living in a 2D world. Or is he? When the existence of a mysterious 3rd dimension is revealed to him, Gomez is sent out on a journey that will take him to the very end of time and space. Use your ability to navigate 3D structures from 4 distinct classic 2D perspectives.

Have a look if interested and enjoy.

The next freebies from Epic will be Celeste & Inside starting August 29nd.

Fez had potential to be a good puzzle game, but good puzzle games shouldn't rely on outside 3rd party information and technology to be fully completed (Unless the entire premise is ARG gameplay like NITE Team 4).

But its free so you don't have to worry about giving Phil your money.

I got Fez a while back on humble and I still haven't played it(because backlog). I've heard it's a lot of fun, though ironically I've heard just as much about how much of an ass Phil Fish is and how he apparently had a hissy fit at the internet for reasons. Something Something people were making him feel bad and not appreciating his genius or something.

I should probably go watch the superbunnyhop video about again.

Downloaded it, started it and turned it off 5 minutes later.

Funny how sometimes one craves for story in a game and other times one just wants to start playing and turns the game off because of its inclusion of too much story.

Maybe, I don't know how these digital giveaways work money-wise.

Epic's solution to everything seems to be "let's throw our Fortnite money at it". For example, when Epic did its summer sale, a number of devs came out saying Epic ate the cost of all discounts i.e. games were essentially still being sold at full price but customers only paid for example 50%, while Epic paid for the other half.

It's possible these giveaways work similarly and when you "buy" Fez, you're basically making Epic pay Phil for it. Which does have a certain charm. Tho I'd guess Epic would have negotiated some kind of bulk discount.

It might work that way yeah, or maybe theres simply a fixed payment that Epic offered for offering it for free. Who knows?

It's not a bad little game, certainly it has a unique gameplay mechanic and plenty of charm. The game "lost" me, both literally and figuratively, when the big world map opened and I found myself wandering from one poorly signposted area to another without the benefit of a central hub. Despite normally enjoying an exploration driven game and a lack of millennial hand-holding, it was a bit bewildering. Perhaps I'll get back to it one day.

As an aside, I notice many of the Epic freebies come from the same catalogue as Xbox's Games With Gold?
