Greeting, you greatest guys and gals. Before you click the link below, make sure to read the instructions I've written below. It'll save you time. Anyway, today, for you:

[HEADING=2]The Witcher: Enhanced Edition [https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus?pp=4b1a62d54f5d635ceffa0118244d63e07779e04a][/HEADING]

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is currently free at GOG. I don't know how long it will be free, so if you want it, nab it while you can. Getting it is a little more involved than usual tho. You need to have both Gwent (also free) in your GOG library and be subscribed to their newsletter. But no worries, I'll guide you through it.

1) Download and install GOG Galaxy.
2) Launch GOG Galaxy and go to Gwent's in-client store page.
3) Click the "Play for free" button. Then just click install. This should add the game to your GOG library. You don't need to launch the game or even complete the installation, just starting it and then cancelling should do the trick.
4) Gwent is in your library? Great, now you can click the big link above (or this one [https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus?pp=4b1a62d54f5d635ceffa0118244d63e07779e04a] if you're a lazybones)
5) You'll be prompted to claim a free Card Keg. Accept it.
6) Another prompt will appear to claim a copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Accept it.
7) Finally, a third prompt to subscribe to the GOG newsletter. Again, accept it, even if you were already subscribed before.
8) You'll now be take to the The Witcher: Enhanced Edition store page. All that remains is to click the "Free" button and It should cost 0.00 at checkout. Do so and the game should appear in your library.

Ok, you're done. Like I said, bit more work than usual. I suck at explaining things, but I hope this helps you and that I didn't miss anything. Once you've met the "have Gwent in your library" requirement tho, things are fairly self-explanatory. Note that you don't need GOG Galaxy for The Witcher: Enhanced Edition, but afaik the only way to get Gwent into your library is through GOG Galaxy.

Your name is Geralt of Rivia and you are a witcher, that means you kill monsters for a living. You were given special training to be the best at what you do and your body has been enhanced with potent elixirs to help you do it.

Suffering from amnesia you remember nothing of your past. Kaer Morhen, the last remaining keep of the witchers, was attacked by a mysterious organization, just as you were starting to lick your wounds there. The battle is won but the secret recipe for the mutagen, a substance required to create more of your kind, has been stolen. The surviving witchers set out to find and reclaim it and punish everyone involved. Memory loss or not, you are one of them.

Set in a dark fantasy world with a unique medieval, yet somewhat modern, feel to it, The Witcher isn't just another fantasy RPG. With a deep story, complex characters, and tough choices that actually matter, this game will keep you glued to your monitor for days.
Since this is from GOG, it is of course DRM-free. It also comes with a ton of extras like the soundtrack and music inspired by The Witcher (both offer choice of MP3 and FLAC), behind the scenes videos, creator interviews, maps, manuals, wallpapers, an artbook, and some other stuff.

Have a look if interested and enjoy.

You don't need the GOG Galaxy client for this game. You have the option to download a completely offline installer for this game. Which I recommend a lot more then a client.

Is that so? I first went to the Gwent store page on their website and it prompted me to install 'GOG_Galaxy_Gwent.exe', which is basically just GOG Galaxy, but it drops you straight at the in-client store page.

I thought that since it seemed to make you install GOG Galaxy either way, might as well skip that first step I did.

In any case, doesn't really matter how you get Gwent in your library. All fine.

I have to scratch my head at the idea of someone using GOG and somehow not having the classic Witcher.

Well I don't know about the Gwent thing but most games, especially the old classics on GOG uses offline installers. Infact that's how we've been getting GOG games before the Galaxy client was a thing.

Yes, I know. And yes, you can just download the offline installer for The Witcher and you don't need GOG Galaxy.

But since having Gwent (also free, for anymore still wondering) is a prerequisite for The Witcher freebie, you'll need GOG Galaxy for at least as long as it takes to install (and then cancel if you want) Gwent. After that, GOG Galaxy isn't needed anymore.

The reason I like GOG is the offline installers, allowing me to actually own the game. I avoid GOG Galaxy wherever possible.

You only need GOG Galaxy for the Gwent prerequisite. Afaik, the only way to add that to your library is through the client. After that you don't need it for The Witcher freebie anymore tho, so you're free to cast GOG Galaxy back into the pit whence it came.

Perhaps that changes you mind, tho it's your choice.

That sounds like a lot of work to go through for a game that isn't particularly good. Don't get me wrong, I dug Witcher 2 and loved Witcher 3 but the first game is competant at best. I've routinely implored people just to find a summary of the plot(or Watch a LP if you must) and skip to Witcher 2, because there's not much in the first gameplay wise that's worth the time and effort to complete it.

I actually agree, it is a hassle. But I don't think it my place to judge whether or not a giveaway is worth it, either the quality of the game itself or the effort required to get it, so long as you at no point have to pay for anything.

Ok, no, I might just intentionally ignore some obvious shitty shovelware freebie. Luckily, I've never had to. Because shovelware peddlers don't tend to give away their crap for free.

I'm not bashing you. You're doing a great job bring these freebies to our attention. I was just throwing my two cents out there about the game itself.

It?s rough around the edges, but still one of my favorites. To me The Witcher 2 was a step back in every way except visuals and combat mechanics. TW3 is kind of a blend of the two but mostly just...very indulgent in its excess.

Really? Because the story and the way it was told was much, much better.
It had a bigger budget and was more cinematic but to me it felt rushed and too linearly told. The original felt less scripted and more organic even if the delivery was often awkward.

Well, start at rock bottom and up is the only way you can go.
