Someone acted like a cow, but the devs weren't taking no bull, even if they had to pony up in the end.

It never had the license, it was a fan game that got pretty far since at that point Hasbro was pretty hands off with fan copywrite infringement. It was going to be in evo but that gave it a bit too high a profile, especially for something that looked pretty damn professional and Hasbro probably had to put the kybosh on it. It is still around, other people have taken over development, but its pretty easy to see the difference between the stuff the original team put in compared to the new stuff added. I know that Applejack and Rarity were pretty much finished, I don't remember how far the others of the mane6 were, but the way they would all fight was translated over to Thems Fightin Herds.
