Hey ho, seems like we're ending the year on a high note. Heard this game is massively better than it's predecessor and actually lives up to its inspiration. Anyway, starting tomorrow Epic freebies will be back to their regular schedule. But today, for you:

[HEADING=2]Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair [https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/product/yooka-laylee-and-the-impossible-lair/home][/HEADING]

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be free at Epic Games Store until January 01st. As always, you can get the game through the link above, or straight from the Epic Games launcher. Either way, the game will be added directly to your Epic Games library.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a brand-new platform adventure from some of the key creative talent behind 'Donkey Kong Country'. With their arch-nemesis Capital B up to no good, the buddy duo needs to spring into action once again to save the day!

Have a look if interested and enjoy.

Before I forget, there'll be two freebies tomorrow.

Not exactly sure which ones, but I'm pretty sure one will be Darksiders 2, judging from the image in the coming soon tile. The other one looks like it might be a skiing game, but no clue otherwise.

I wonder how long Epic can keep this up tho? Those aggressive sales, giving every customer a $10 coupon, and I doubt all those devs are letting Epic give away their games for free without some kind of incentive. It must cost them a pretty penny. Right now Fortnite is still making oodles of money, but they have to know it's unlikely they can rely on that forever, and they've been notably tightlipped on whether their game store venture has been successful so far.

You get $10 off your next order when you get a free game. So I got Yooka Layee and Control for $30 bucks. And I got another $10 coupon.

So I think their strat is working because it got me to buy another game on top of the free one today.

Of course, I'm sure it's an effective strategy for enticing people to buy games on their platform. Not so sure it's actually making Epic any money. I mean, someone needs to put up for that $10 coupon, and I doubt many devs/publishers will want that on top of the discounts they may already be doing. The big boys certainly won't.

So it's possibly coming out of Epic's pocket, and since they only take a 12% cut to begin with, every purchase over $15 (i.e. eligible for a coupon) would essentially lose them money. Which they can afford cuz Fortnite prints cash, but they'll want their store to at least break even, eventually at least. So I wonder if it is self-sustaining, what with all those timed exclusives, giveaways and coupons, none of which is likely to come for free (on Epic's part).

I think epic is still in "break them from steam" mode. Steam sales won us over a thousand years ago, Epic figures freebies will do us this time. Personally I take every freebie I can, because the current indication seems to be that Epic is buying the freebies from the devs, and I'll give a guy free money that isn't mine any day.
You're probably right, which is why I'm wondering how long they'll keep it up.

As it stands Epic is about as good as steam in terms of overlay, and I am dead certain the Steam library update would have never happened is Epic hadn't come onto the scene, so if nothing else there's some kind of competition actually being created here.

So they're to blame? Because I absolutely HATE that update.
I'm not gonna pretend that the steam library update was mindblowing in any description of the word, but at least it isn't the criminally lazy list system they used to use.

Not everything needs to look like a tablet overlay a la windows 8, but anyone can do better than what amounts to a spreadsheet list. I regularly couldn't find games I wanted to play without the search function because it alphabetized including the word "The", and I reserve all my endless list-staring for the miserable parts of the job I get begrudgingly paid to do.

Unless they start pulling out (more) repeats, I don't think they can go for much longer.

They've almost exhausted their store's entire selection of indie or 'slightly-older' games. All that's left after that will be the AAA stuff, which I doubt they'd give away for free.

But then again, they gave away Arkham Shite, so I guess anything can happen...
