I saw this on another thread last night, but still...damn. No way he's actually dead though, they said that the entire trilogy would be following Shepard.
I seriously think that this is just trying to mess with our heads. Maybe He's gone undercover, captured, or something.

Bioware's told us, almost verbatim, that "Your character will carry out into the sequels." That's why they've told us to keep our save games. They couldn't kill off Shepard. Story-wise, that'd be suicide.

He woun't be dead too little to know what plot and twist will be yet, but my money that he follows the Cerberus as were key players what kept stumbling into last time. Finds that they trying to create a war with the alien races using other hostile races to do their dirty work to break the council as the alliance is stronger than most citadel races more so now after last game.

Meanwhile a know for a fact that old council will of been replaces as refused to bloody listen to shepherd to people who got some bloody sense and mean BW doesn't have to do record same conversation twice :)

Shepherd is Dead and his illegitimate child will emerge on the intergalactic scene and finish his father's work. Trust me.
Unless you didn't do the sex scene, in which case, game over.
The game will detect your history and if it reads that you never A) Played Mass Effect 1 or B) Didn't do the sex scene it will cause the disc to fall out the tray and get horribly scratched up and then the Xbox will get the RRoD.

I don't think xbox needs help in that regard. I do love mine though.

Now lets just hope this game doesn't cock up on PC like the previous Mass Effect did after a certain patch. Ahem ahem, cough cough, Bioware!

Also, my hot red-head female Shepard can't be dead! Never, I say!

Very true, I'm on my 3rd one. I do own a Wii but it has just become a expensive paperweight. I've had Xbox ever since it came out and have loved it since.

I really hope he lives because I want to carry my stats into the next game and kick major ass.
Good point, actually, why would Bioware urge us to keep our save files and then kill of the main guy?

(S)he's not dead, (s)he can't be.

Anyway, something interesting I've thought of before is what if in ME2 or ME3 the citadel races actually allies themselves with the geth (as in not all AI are inherently evil), and we get a geth as a team member, maybe some cool special geth with a personalty (a geth that isn't just cannon fodder).
Or if BioWare and EA decides to be very boring and choose that all geth are evil, maybe we capture one and Tali reprograms it to fight for us.
I'm really hoping for a scene setup similar to the rachni queen scene in the first game, but with geth instead.

Oh man do i want a geth ally! Would be so awesome.

The stereotypical AI-who-wants-to-be-human geth would be sweet. :)

I bet the normandy gets trashed, Shepard is still alive but is assumed dead because another agent finds the wreckage with no signs of life. Which means a large portion of the original crew is dead. (I liked Joker too).

I also bet story will open up with Shepard grounded on a planet Over-ran with Geth. You'll fight your way to a radio tower, in which all your alien buddies fly in a new Taurin stealth ship after you activate a distress signal. And thus it starts.

But thats my theory.
This seems the most plausible.

Geth who wants to be human nothing, this is a chance to create a new HK-47.

Not necessarily human, but a geth that doesn't want to impale us on spikes or melt our brains with plasma fire would be nice for a change... ;)

I love it; it's not what's revealed, it's what's not revealed that is tantalising. I'm more curious about this title than I was before, and I really enjoyed the first game.
