Unfortunately, a bit of you're right and you're not. She is just retaliating to us as we gave her attention and now she is getting more attention ie a troll. However, she is real and the Voldemort thing was her way of being "funny." Yeah, she thinks she's funny. It's kind of sad really. I don't know anyone who would get her sense of humor. I am curious as to how many of the comments she read because I know there were intelligent arguments in the last escapist thread and in this one. I wish she would listen to our intelligent arguments, instead of picking and choosing which ones she responds to. It's like just interviewing people on XBox Live without asking any other gamers: It will get you no where and will just make you think gamers are stupid (Seriously XBL guys, change this).
Hmm, maybe. To me it seems like she's going about this a little bit too well. She (or maybe he) seems to know exactly what will anger gamers, insulting their intelligence, insulting their hobby, bringing Satan and Voldermort as possible creators of games and is playing the retarded soccer mum card. She seems to be too annoying and too insulting to possibly exist. With more posts shes just going to rile up the entire gamer community and when everyone wants her dead she/he will reveal that it was all a hoax, sending the final and greatest insult home. Maybe her level of annoyance is just a coincidence and that someone like this does exist but I find that hard to believe.

Anyway I don't think that the people who believe that video games warp minds and whatnot bother with blogs in the first place.

Let's be honest here for a second. Do some people play WAAYY to many games? Yes. Have some people developed a problem because of their gaming habits? Yes. Do some gamers ignore their social lives and hygiene just to get in one more hour of leveling up? Damn right.

Is this lady completely crazy? You fuckin betcha.

Her problem lies in generalizing as most ignorant people tend to do. It's stupidity of the highest caliber when you say something like video games being the cause of kids being stupid. It's the equivalent of saying all black people will rob you, all mexicans are lazy, all Jewish people love is money and every chinese male has a small dick. While these sayings may be true to certain individuals they are nothing more than stereotypes perpetuated by the dumbest members of our society.

Like a lot people who thinks the way she does, she lives inside a very small box and has no understanding about the world around her, try as she might to comprehend it. Games are not causing kids to be stupid. Growing up with stupid people are causing kids to be stupid.

Idiots thrive off attention. They are like parasites.

So I'll say this once and then not post here again.

Ignore her. Anyone who calls themselves "Frumpy Mom" isn't working with a full set of tools anyway.

Don't bother arguing with them, idiots will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. When you argue with an idiot bystanders will be unable to tell either of you apart.

My biggest problem with this stance-- regardless of who may originate it-- is that it is (not so) suprisingly similar to the whole gun control debate: once again, people are trying to place the blame and/or responsibility for abuse on the object itself, inanimate though it may be, rather than upon the person who chose to misuse/abuse it.

Personal responsibilty seems almost a foreign concept in the world today. (Well, at least in the US. I guess I can't really speak for the rest of the world.) That is a big, BIG, problem in my eyes, because the moment that people can start absolving themselves of any blame or responsibility, they tend to do so, and as a result, things will rapidly become FUBAR.

This woman may think she is promoting a healthy point of view (but honestly, I don't believe she's intelligent enough to thing it through that far-- I think she's just responding to the attention her original post garnered), but the truth is she isn't: she's just another person diverting blame/responsibility from people to inanimate objects in an attempt to justify her need to control her children, rather than teaching them to make good decisions on their own.

"What about this guy who left his girlfriend at the hospital in labor while he went home to play more video games?"

Hey, that guy's a dick.

But yeah, if she showed that to my English teacher, he would say "Cite your damn sources."

I am sorry `Frumpy Mom`,

You critizise gamers for not being able to think, I am sorry, but so far, in what you have said, I see very little evidence that you are catable of contructive, critical and logical thinking yourself.

You have implied that games are somewhat detrimental to the development of science with your poorly constructed Albert Eistein and Isaac Newton theories, however I have yet to see a scientific approach from yourself.

Your `evidence` is based on hearsay, this is not scientific. If you want the gaming community to take you seriously, I strongly suggest that you present some credentials (University/college e.t.c. graduation), cite some relevent and acedemic sources, do some origional research (hearsay is NOT research) and present your findings.

I myself, have played games for many years, yet I graduated from a top UK university with a good degree and I am now being paid to undertake research in a University abroad.

I find your comments, unbased, biast and insulting. I strongly suggest that you adopt another approach.

The problem with Frumpy Mom, apart from her frumpy parts, is that she sees kids as little douche bags suffering from ADHD who are brain dead and have no self-esteem. Her view of theses retarded children and young adults has sparked something in her ?adult? and ?clear minded? frumpy head to find out what it is. So rather than research the topic, video games seem the logical choice as a cause rather than poor parenting, overpopulation, sociological factors and common sense. It?s not that Frumpy Mom isn?t a concerned parent who?s looking into the problem?s of today?s children and teens, it?s that she?s using videogames as an excuse to justify why she sees her children and everyone else?s children as little shit spawns from Satan. No one with a healthy regard for children and young teenagers would ever refer to them as having ?no self-esteem?, the brainless shits.
I CONCUR.

"I stay up playing games on the computer, and I got a 32 on my ACT and had a 3.9 GPA in high school. And you know what I did the day before that ACT test? Played video games. My dad yelled at me, then I woke up the next day and scored in the 99th percentile of every person who took that test. Maybe genetics has a bigger factor on academic performance than strict parenting? I'll be quietly stroking my ego if you need me."

Since the moderators on that site seem to bigger Nazis than the ones around here (no offense), I went ahead and quoted my response to Frumpy Mommy's post for posterity's sake.

"Frumpy Mom" Responds To AttacksAll you have to do is ask any teacher about his or her students' critical thinking skills these days and you will hear a TORRENT of horror stories about kids who have lost the power to think.

Where do you think that's coming from? Right. TV, computers and video games.
While she is right about the fact that the critical thinking skills are in rapid decline these days, this is not only the case with children that play video games but also with adults/children that have never touched a video game in their life. (Atleast in my country) adhessive video gaming isn't popular with most kids, and only a minority of them is playing them nearly 24/7, while the decline in critical thinking and overal language skills are seen amongst all children and adults these days. So how can the above be blamed solely on video games, computers and tv? Everything starts with good parenting, education and rolemodels. While obsessive video gaming is a factor in this decline it is not the only and most important one, ones that are much more to blame are: Society, bad education and bad parrenting. So it is meaningless to find a 'scapegoat' for anything other then trying to shift the blame from her own failures as a parrent.

Anyway, the above I just typed will not be read by her anyway and even if she did, she will most likely not care. So I'll stop wasting my time by replying to her wasted time.

I like it that she accuses people of having low self esteem, when she describes herself as "Frumpy". But anyway, this women is nothing short of bait for another flame war, but with this one going on in the outside world. (You know, that place where theres no roof, and sometimes the sprinklers can go on for hours).

More like Mumpy From!..Hell!

Next they'll be blaming everything on what a kid learned from a video game. I admit, there should be limits. My 7 year old cousin is now endlessly quoting bits from Grand Theft Auto, which is kinda wierd, because he comes across as more of a Ryder than a CJ. But I digress. Yes, some games shouldn't be played by children in the same vein that some movies shouldn't be seen by children. But honestly, if the devil is in the detail(ed) graphics of games like Hawx and Crysis, then I'm all for him. Go the devil! Making games fun! Except in that "True Crimes" bucket of awful.

And honestly, if the US ever needs more pilots for their UAV programme, just recruit kids who play flight sims all day long. In some sort of twisted "Ender's Game*" re-enactment. Honestly, I'm not crazy.

*Aplogies for the Orson Scott Card reference.

...You know, when I read this, I did get a little angry, but thats run dry. So, instead...

First of all, "Reading a Book is different from a Video Simulation".

Indeed they are different, but I disagree on the notion that Video games take all of the imagination out of a story. because it wasn't even until that recently in gaming that we had voices, and as far as I recall, the Back story for many games is still not always elaborated on in any way BUT tidbit of information you have to read within the game. after all, when you game, you are heading into another world.

Speaking of that, Didn't Yahtzee once mention that Silent Hill 2's Atmosphere made it so great? just because it is different, doesn't mean it is inferior.

Next- "I want my kids to be the actors in their own lives, not the watchers."

here, I can't help but be a bit indignant about everything after this point, but this statement...in all life, we must "act", and unless everything is being decided for you, then you cannot only watch your own life. People can put down their things, regardless of what they are, when they need to or want to, but weather or not they do is up to the individual. besides that, isn't looking back on your life a good way to bring things into perspective at times, with where you come from, and all?

Seems to me like this gripe tries to paint video games into the same corner as TV, but since you actually interact with things and people in video games(including making decisions), your getting acting practice in a way, because you rarely are you when you play, though you may act the same. I've found gaming to be great as a "What if?" and my acting has improved as such.

from here... Wow. those are some very lucky children. Especially considering until now I personally never heard of anyone going to all those places, especially at their ages. They are quite lucky, aren't they? Since gaming can be a good way to avoid the daily humdrum, its no surprise they aren't complaining to go to ALL of those nice places. Hey, id post a "gone sightseeing" note, if someone offered to fly me to Osaka.

So the son of the friend would have rather played some Runescape while in Italy. sounds like he just prefers it more. what is left unclear is how long he played it. If it was where he spent the majority of his time, then... maybe he didn't want to go. Forgive my Squirrely ignorance and all, but from where I come from, not everyone enjoys the same things, and at that age, enjoying sightseeing isn't always a kids cup of tea to begin with.

oh, and its nice to know that they ONLY go out to do those things. I suppose with a schedule so full, they get no running around time? sometimes staring at the clouds is a good thing, but hey, what do I know (consistent 3.4-5 GPA in College, also on Deans list and an Honors student), I'm just a gamer.

_______

*breathes out* ok, I'm going to go back to Vana'diel now, Fenrir is calling me. Don't feed the trolls (the good food).

I would love to congratulate this woman with a trophy for currently being the Internet and Print world's most annoying troll. True she is playing at it for hits but in general her blogs/articles are mean spirited and hateful towards people unlike her, while simultaneously proving her own life is the best thing ever. I don't want to beat/kill/maim her as hope her children actually have good friends that are not alienated by this woman for being different in the smallest way. She reminds me of the sandwich-board protesters that stand in front of bars proclaiming that "Gays are the Army of Satan" and how I will go to hell for being out on Friday/Saturday night.

Mean spirited ***** needs to be hit by a baseball at her kid's next game though, if she even actually has kids.
