FX Orders Pilot of Superhero Cop Drama Powers

Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's Powers is officially coming to television.

Powers [http://www.amazon.com/Walking-Dead-Season-One-Blu-ray/dp/B0049P1ZZQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1298835529&sr=1-2]. FX has now taken the first official step toward putting Eglee's Powers in production.

FX ordered a pilot episode of Powers, which is based on a comic book series written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming. The reason Eglee is such a good fit is, as Bendis tweeted, Powers is "not a superhero show... It's a cop show with a superhero element. Big difference." Eglee wrote the script for the pilot.

Powers follows detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim in a world where superpowers are common, but heroes aren't necessarily praised as saviors of the universe like in other books. When a murder occurs, Walker and Pilgrim show up to investigate, not the Avengers. It truly is a police drama with a superhero element, as Bendis says.

A second Walking Dead connection comes from production company Circle of Confusion, which works on the zombie show, also taking a hand in Powers. Directing duties were handed to Michael Dinner, whom Deadline says is the "driving force" behind the project.

This television talent combined with Bendis and Oeming, two of the comic book world's top creators, should make for another amazing show on the level of Walking Dead. At the least, I'm thinking it'll be worth making room for on the DVR.

I'm so excited. Powers is one my fave series and I had high hopes when I heard rumours of a show long ago. It's been a while since I've read it though and I need to catch up.

Fantastic.

FX has been on a streak of brilliant television the last few years. Something to look forward to.

So wait are superpowers just a thing in this comic? You just have them and people just don't do anything with them?

No, from what little I know about the series superheroes still exist but the focus of the series is on a pair of normal detectives.
OT: Super excited for this, just please, please, PLEASE make it good. I don't want to see shitty special-FX (hurhur pun) and a labyrinthine plot. Just please, something accessible.

Powers is awesome and a great fit for tv. I hope they get to include a few cameos from heroes like Savage Dragon, like they had in the comics. There´s a lot of potential in this.

Well i like it very much. But as i understand, its not for everyone. and first 5 to 10 issues is somewhat boring but it gets really awesome after a while.

Even though I've only read a little bit of Powers (stopped at vol. 3), I am looking forward to this. If you like cop shows, then this could be the thing for you.

No, it's a setting with a lot of characters that parallel major DC and Marvel characters, but the main characters aren't superpowered.

My opinion is that while an interesting concept, I think they would have done better to do "Top Ten". But then again, I suppose they would butcher it both due to the FX budget and feeling the material was just too mature... and the creator would of course get upset like he usually does.

Still, it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Truthfully though I'd like the TV studios to either lay off the super hero shows, or budget them properly, because I think almost every one of them has suffered from being too low budget. Simply put in a super hero show you expect people to use flashy powers, however to show that on the screen takes money, which means that like "Heroes" the show rapidly becomes stupid because the writers go through massive conniptions to avoid showing anything that would be expensive to do.

Ah, blame the Internets. It's hard to convey tone, I guess. My bad.

What I mean is that I was actually asking you if it was 'that good'. The Walking Dead, being what it is, lends itself very well to TV format; but since I don't know almost anything about Powers I thought I'd ask.

Mind you, I've heard nothing but good things about it, but I'm not too versed on the subject.

FX has a running standard with its shows, unlike THAT WHICH WILL NOT BE NAMED *cough*scifi*cough*, I will admit, I never read the comic, and it sort of sounds like Heroes, but a show with people with super powers, yet the main focus being people without ones?

Sounds like something to DVR for the family.
Believe me, it's NOT for the family. Think of a gritty noir cop show with it's fair share of non-PC language, violence and the occasional nudity plus a super-powered ratpack which is using their celeb status for...a lot of different things. At least that's the comic. And that's pretty much why i think it won't work well on a semi-cable channel like FX. Didn't they ask HBO, Showtime or STARZ? :(
