I'm sure part of this will also allow you to change computers and ask for some form of authentication.

Here's the problem. What if your account is paired with a system that suddenly disintegrates and you need to buy a new one. What do you do?
Move away from the DEATH RAY FACTORY.
You know it's funny, I say this because it actually happened to me. Okay, my system didn't disintegrate...it melted. But the point still stands. Computer breaks. You still want to play your games. Damn DRM won't let you.

Valve is the only company I ever let get away with this shit.

Steam Guard is the worst idea ever. EVERY time I log on to my computer it asks me. My computer hasn't moved from this house in almost 2 weeks.

Dear Gabe, get a new hobby. Like Half Life Ep 3.

ALSO: WTF IS WITH THE NEW CAPTCHAS?!

This kinda reminds me of that Blizzard guy giving out his real name to try and prove that people using RealID couldn't find any personal info on you just by seeing your name.

Incase you don't know the story, it took the forum goers all of 15 minutes to find his address and send pizzas to his house. And that was the tamest thing they did.
What happened? Do you have a link to the story?

Thanks :D

I loved the theory behind this and as something of a steam-lover I thought brill. However the reality is rather different, the benefit I always praised Steam for was it was one of the first attempts at cloud computing or to be more precise cloud gaming, you can access your games at any internet cafe and play there, brilliant for when you needed to escape the family but still socialise with friends. But now if I want to check on the community when am away from home I have to go through the procedure of entering a code sent to my email address to verify it is me. However, the simple procedure is made a complete rigmarole by the fact that, with a hotmail account I have never had an issue with, the email still doesn't arrive after 2 hours of waiting, making Steam unusable outside the home and I cannot find a way to opt out of this wonderful mechanism.

Good idea, practise is flawed.
