Thank you for reminding the internet videogames have had boobs for a while now.
Thank you for showing The Escapist the popular games many of us have with these "grotesque sins against god".
Thank you for showing everyone how silly they are.

I am tired of everything typical of videogames being called a coordinated (sinister) attack against someone. Video games are supposed to be stupid and exaggerated; that's why we're still fighting Russians, Nazis and dinosaurs in them. If anything, they are probably the last and final place it's acceptable to have such a ridiculously stylized character design... well, games and comic books and some anime (etc. etc. etc.). The tragic irony of that is pretty much every form of media is objectifying women more, but with half the scrutiny and drama.

I don't know why games are held to this impossible standard of having to be the most politically correct things in existence. They're just fucking video games, people. Games are probably the least offensive things to come out of our entertainment media, and if you disagree clearly you've never seen Game of thrones. The random, pointless sex and nudity scenes got so abundant, they started to become filler for the story and even boring.

This is hilarious! Post some boobs and the sexism obsessed part of the community reacts like a sleeping bear being poked with a stick.
I was curious about what pictures they decided to go with, then I had the thought...

"I am going to enjoy the comments section SO much more"

And here I am. Laughing my ass off. I <3 the Escapist for this one.

Excellently done chaps.

Now in the interest of balance, where are the newsworthy cocks? :p
Now now. This was gaming boobs, not gaming c*nts. ;p

But if that was an invitation to get the party started with some fabulous male eye-candy...

every single one of those pics is covering up the pecs in some way, FUCKING SEXIST HORSESHIT, GIMME THEM MAN TITTIES OPEN AND GLEAMING AT ME.
It's all about Dante's abs. *sigh* (I'm not much of a pecs girl. I think guys care about them more than us ladies do.)

I actually prefer Dante's face in DMC4 over DMC3, but the kill-joys at Capcom made him put on a shirt for DMC4.

Also, I've just noticed that Kilik doesn't appear to have any nipples in the picture I chose. I always knew he was too tasty to be human. ;)

I was bothered that the gallery is called Pixelated Boobs, yet some of the pics are concept art and the like.

At least keep it to in game models or something guys.

The article may be questionable.. the reaction certainly is not.

Many consider Final Fantasy VII to be the best in the series, I'm pretty sure it was because of Tifa's boobs.
You can smell the wind-up on this one a mile off!

Technically anything viewed through a CRT,LCD,LED monitor is pixels, so they're not exactly lying. Besides if they made it all in game models they would have had to call it polygonal boobs.

anyway... Back on Topic.

What I find interesting that the topic itself doesn't determine the response, but rather the gender of the columnist.

Classy. Good to see the Escapist doing its best to give people like Anita that much more ground to stand on. Just when I was starting to think that the people calling gaming culture a sex obsessed, testosterone poisoned, boys only club were overreacting.

Ah yes, always nice to be reminded that being sexually attracted to women, and particular parts of female anatomy, makes me a misogynist. Classy.
A hundred times this.

I'm a woman who likes looking at boobs. Does that make me part of the "sex obsessed, testosterone poisoned, boys only club"?

Women have boobs. Most men (and many women) find boobs appealing to look at. There is nothing wrong with this.

It is absolutely infuriating that this here here and utterly disappointing that this article made it past whatever sort of review process the Escapist has.

At best this is a failed attempt to get some laughs at the expense of those who would question the overly-sexualized depiction of women in video games. At best this is a suggestion that gender issues have no place in the discussion surrounding video games At best this is an attempt to ridicule or satirize the notion of holding video games to the same standards of content that all other art is. And when the best possible interpretation of an article is as an attempt to limit the scope of the conversation surrounding video games, then forgetting the insult to those affected by the issues, you do a grave disservice to video games themselves and their place in culture as a whole.

I will say I'm heartened to see as many commenters here as there are decrying this sort of thing. There was a time, not too long ago, I think, when those who recognize the misogyny in an article like this would fume in private and not speak up--certainly, that would've been the case for me. But here, many people have stood up and voiced their displeasure and disappointment, which will only make others feel empowered to do so the next time something like this happens. And that is what leads to change.

To The Escapist, I'll say this. I originally thought about threatening to cease consumption of your content. I thought about threatening to contact your independent content producers and call their attention to whether they, many of whom have been vocal in the cause of bringing awareness to gender issues in the medium, want to continue producing content for a site that posts something like this. I thought about contacting advertisers, many of whom understand that misogyny is no longer acceptable for this medium. But I'm angry right now, and it would be rash to act while I'm still so infuriated. However, I will ask you this:

When you post an article, would you rather it appeal to the audience that sees gender issues as something worth discussing in video games, or the audience that (as we have seen in these very comments) uses "feminist" as an insult? Think on it, please.

Yeah, ive got something for you buddy.

mi·sog·y·ny [mi-soj-uh-nee, mahy-]
noun
hatred, dislike, or mistrust of women.

Not only is the article NOT showing misogyny, its actually celebrating the anatomy of a woman!

Many of the people who are in this thread who are yelling at the top of their lungs "SEXISTTTTTTT", just have their priorities misplaced.

Much of what you say is empty words, because in all essence, this article does nothing to hurt or help the 'so called sexism in gaming'. Its actually comparing Dragons Crown's exaggeration of breast with breast that were present in the past.

Its also humorous. I dont usually say this much, but seriously.

Take a chill pill. The boogy man misogynist is not trying to grow an evil army of woman haters through an article that shows the evolution of boobies in video games.

This thread reminds me of when the Jimquisition first started on this site. xD Good times.

Edit: A lot of the wannabe feminists have not heard of sex positive feminism. Go and look it up people :)

You could well have just stopped at "At best this is a failed attempt to get some laughs at the expense of those who would question the overly-sexualized depiction of women in video games." as that's most likely the case here.

Assuming my guess is correct, I think you should have at least had the stones to post this with your normal account though.

So we can't have intelligent discussion AND also enjoy ogling hot females?
What exactly is the discussion value here? The majority of the posts on this thread are going "lolololol buttmad feminists xD xD xD", so its less a "discussion" and more "everything wrong with this community in one place". If you want tits, there is porn all over the internet, go find some.
And if you are female, and uncomfortable with the idea of scantily clad, big breasted women I question why you went into a thread/gallery entitled "pixelated boobs".
First of all, I'm male and straight, so this isn't "not to my tastes" its "not the time or the place". Second, my issue is that this was posted by staff. If you are going to make staff posts they should have some value, either as thought provoking articles or as news. If this guy wanted to just post sexy pictures he should have done it on his pervy livejournal, not on the Escapist front page.
I don't like this thing, therefore no one else is allowed to either.
More like " I hate what this thing represents" and therefore it worries me that it exists. I would rather not frequent a site apparently run by the guy who wrote FATAL.
the community is overwhelmingly male and straight, so this gallery appealing to the majority is unsurprising.
So fuck minorities? This sounds eerily like the asinine non logic that makes publishers scared to have female leads in games.
Each thread for a Western game doesn't have to have a equivalent one for a Eastern game.
An article about a western game doesn't normal make anyone feel uncomfortable or objectified, so that really isn't a good comparison.

So, I have a suggestion. If you want a thread dedicated to the ogling of hot men, make one.
Its not so much that I want one, its that if the same guy who posted this also posted the gender inverse he would come across a bit less like a creep. Tell me when he does so and I will withdraw my accusations.

So, i guess this was meant as satire, but while i smiled a few times, in the end it feels more like trolling than satire (more 4chan than the onion), as it was just not clever or over the top enough. Also, why not just include some half-naked males? That would have saved us all some (of course not all) cries of "sexism" and "misogyny".

So you're upset about the non-existence of something you don't even want, nor would even view, and you'll only be satisfied when that exists?
