In my experience guys seldom are made uncomfortable by shirtless men unless its because they are afraid of "catching the gay". men and women do not have the exact same reaction to everything.

Remember the Watchmen movie? Of course you do, even if you didn't see it the ads were everywhere. Well remember Dr. Manhatten and his full male nudity? I remember when that movie was in theaters men LEFT THE THEATER because seeing another man's dick on screen made them uncomfortable. I know some men who have not seen the movie all the way through because they refuse to have to look at another man's penis.

And yet I, as a woman, daily have to look at other women's breasts ALL the time. Now I'm not saying this is a bad thing, I don't mind, I have no fear of the boobies, but I do get tired of that seeming to be the only focus a woman can have. In my movies, my games, my books, my TV, my magazines, hell I once had to drive behind a semi-truck for an HOUR staring at Katy Perry's barely bra-covered tits. And yet if *I* walked out of a movie theater or hell, even this thread, because it made me uncomfortable that the only thing these female characters were being noted for was their breasts, I'm an uptight feminist who's butthurt and raging and crying.

I decided to have a look at the pictures to see what all of the fuss was about and guess what; it is hardly worth the moaning people are doing. I mean, that's classed as really bad? Big deal, there's some photos of women from video games, it's not as if pretty much everyone here hasn't seen any of those photos.

I've never played the Halo series, but is it just me or does something seem off with Cortana's proportions? Like the boobs are two low on the body or the neck is too long, or a combination of the two. To try and frame it that seems like a huge gap between her chin & her boobs, almost like it's in grandma proportions.

In most "sexy-lady" pics, the woman is wearing a bra (or some other item of clothing) to push up her boobs and get that nice crease across the top. With no clothes on, they naturally fall a bit lower. Breasts are actually a sort-of tear-drop shape with the point at the woman's armpit.

I am almost always on the "There is nothing wrong with sexy female characters" side of the gender debate, but I dislike what I perceive as hypocrisy on behalf of the Escapist. They condemn this kind of thing on the one hand, while doing it themselves on the other.

I genuinely am not offended in the slightest, I have nothing against sexy women or sexy characters, I am just irritated by it. It comes across as childish.

Perhaps that means I don't have a sense of humour, but to be honest I don't think so because when I see people do it with a bit of wit, I do find it funny.

It's difficult to describe exactly what I mean. It's kind of like they don't post news because they think it's worth reading, but to try and please whomever reads it. If the current "vibe" is that games are not women friendly they will post an article supporting that. If it's that people are blowing their fuse over some fictional boobs, then they post things like this. There is no sincerity behind it, it's trying to appease the crowd so to speak.

I am not saying they are "wrong" for doing it, but I felt that it is a shameless attention grab, which was what my original comment was about. Seeing as they have no added in discussion, I have posted a response to that.

I didn't think it needed saying that the rules for staff publishing articles are different to the rules for users posting forum threads.

I've been warned before for posting a forum thread with a link to a Kickstarter, as that apparently counts as advertising. But it would be a bit silly if the Escapist didn't allow any sort of advertising on their site, as that's sort-of how they make money.

I hate to say it, but welcome to news media! If you want to read a publication that includes content on the basis of its worth, pick up an academic journal. News sources produce (and re-post) content on the basis of what people might like to read or view. The fact that the Escapist listens to what their audience is currently talking about and publishes relevant content isn't really a bad thing.

The Escapist isn't here with an agenda. It isn't a campaign group. It's a gaming-focused aggregate news site with a side-line in funny videos. And if you expect it to be anything else, then you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Individuals who create content for the site (such as Jimquisition) may use it for a platform for their own personal views, but the site itself can't really be expected to have some sort of "party line" that must be stuck to.

In the wide scope of the internet, I don't see it as particularly shameless or much of an "attention grab". I doubt more than a couple of people found their way to the Escapist today by a link to this news post. Typing "video game boobs" into Google gets you 37 million results, and The Escapist certainly isn't on the first page. If they wanted to farm clicks by offering boobs, they'd have to try a hell of a lot harder than this!

As it is, it's just a silly article referencing a recent hot topic on the site. It's aimed squarely at site regulars.
