There have been a few threads already about game worlds you would like to be in which I have already answered (Bioshock, Halo, Mass Effect, Half Life, Oblivion etc as a couple of the ones I'd like to live in) however in my usual manner I decided to take the logical opposite and ask what game world would never want to see yourself in.
For a while I had been very certain I wouldn't want to findm myself in Silent Hill... then I realised there was a world far scarier (not wishing to offend anyone by the way) the world of.... the last few years of Sonic the Hedgehog!!
What a world where brightly coloured neon animals run around really fast with terrible dialouge and awful voice work combined with terrible stories and broken game mechanics, a corrupt government ruled by leperous retards and every time it seems slightly worse (Hey I think I found another video game hell). Yeah I wouldn't want to be immersed into the 'Sonic World'.

But that's my choice what's yours?

(once again please no flame wars)

...I don't think there's any possible way to narrow that down. Eternal Darkness, Duke Nukem, Gears of War, Serious Sam, Halo, World of Warcraft, most Tales games, etc.

Anything where I have the distinct possibility of getting killed horribly.

Lets see.. Left 4 Dead, i'm allergic to being eaten alive.

Fallout 3, i'm allergic to intense physical labor and the threat of violent death by Deathclaw, Yao Guai, or Raiders.

Oblivion. Constantly surrounded by total idiots who constantly go on about mudcrabs, all of whom are voiced by the same person, forced by some character I don't care about to go on a series of fetch quests, only to witness (not participate in, witness) a pretty pathetic final boss fight against some guy who was exposed to too much radiation and consequently grew two extra arms... the list goes on. Probably my biggest problem though, is that I wouldn't be able to kill half the people, they'd just get knocked unconsious.

Silent Hill? I honestly don't want to be in a place where monsters that look like pieces of skin superglued to some strange animal constantly get raped by a geometric-shape-wearing butcher..

I don't think I'd enjoy living a most any of the final fantasy universes. After all, they tend to be quite dystopian and run by faceless organizations that are so cartoonishly evil I keep expecting them to demand "The rent." Furthermore, the general populace (Not the plucky young heros) always seem to be irrevokably depressed.

Two Worlds would also be a very poor choice, not due to the fantasy setting, mind you, more because of the dialogue. It really is nothing short of horrifying. Just the thought of being immersed in a culture that believes "I'll test your mettle... AND your metal," is an effective threat makes me nearly suicidal.

Not to stray from topic, but I am curious about saying you'd like to live in the Bioshock world. The game is phenominal, yes, but that doesn't preclude that most of the population is horribly addicted to, essentially, people juice, and are being led by and insane man who makes you beat him to death with a golf club. Fun for a visit, but I don't really want a summer home there.

I think it's odd that OP would *like* to be in those game worlds... knowing full well that the hero/protagonist in those worlds would still be themselves: You would be one of the tortured psychotic people inhabiting it.

A world I would *not* want to find myself in? All of them. I've never seen a "real life to game world" experience in a movie or TV show that worked out. Remember Freddy's Dead? Yeah.

I see your point, I'm just not big on the whole objectivism stuff. I suppose it'd be worse if Andrew Ryan were a big Sartre fan, but still not too appealing.

Most game worlds are quite violent and as such I wouldn't want to live in them. I think I'll just stay in Viva Piñata land.
