Gamer Petitions Infinity Ward for Color Blind Option in Modern Warfare 2

A petition has been started to get Infinity Ward to add support for color-blind gamers to Modern Warfare 2.

Color-blindness probably isn't something that you often think about in relation to videogames, but for the thousands of men and women it affects, it can be a significant hindrance when playing certain games, especially when playing online.

One such game is Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2, which uses red and green to differentiate between friend and foe. As red-green color-blindness is the most common form, this makes the game almost impossible to play effectively.

Helen Hodsey has started a petition [http://www.petitiononline.com/hodsey77/] on behalf of her color-blind husband, as well as a Facebook group and has already managed to reach the ears of Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling on Twitter [http://twitter.com/fourzerotwo/status/6244421745].

While online petitions rarely make a great deal of difference, I'm hoping that this one gets plenty of coverage, because unlike certain other Modern Warfare 2 petitions [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.150774?page=1], it's for a very good cause.

I have Red/Green color blindness but its not like we can distinguish between the 2. Its just tuff to see the difference in purple/blue and yellow/green. It totally sux balls when they make the indicators yellow and light green >.<

But this certainly a reasonable request. a tiny code patch to change the color isnt hard. But knowing how greedy IW has become its probably not "cost effective" to cater to 10% of the gamer populations. <.< (yes im a PC, and this is out of spite! XD)

Not a bad idea. I know that Blizzard changed Netherspite slightly to accomodate colour-blind people so it's not unheard of.

Either change the colours slightly or add a slight shape discrepancy between the two that's easily recognisable.

WHAT?!? you actually fucking care enough about a game to write in to the MAKERS to *****??

and so what if you can't tell friend from foe? shoot them both. it makes for a more fun game experience, and its a fucking GAME. they don't die. there is no harm done. grow up and chill out.

christ next there will be a petition to make so and so bullet proof or something. its a minor problem you can work around massively easily. i don't notice a problem playing games, the only reason i would raise a petition like that is for attention.

I agree this is a good idea and should be implemented where games have indicators, but to be honest I don't think anyone should be allowed to see the friend / foe indicator in COD, at all. It's all about Hardcore Mode...

On CoD5 you could change the colours to an alternate colour scheme. It's no big deal. Besides, It's not that hard without them.

You can make the same arguments against these guys as you can the server people.
"You dont have to buy it!"
"they dont owe you anything!"
"Get over yourselves!"
'Speak with your wallet and not your mouth!"
When longtime fans ask to KEEP a feature that's both the STANDARD in pc shooters/COD series AND save's the dev's time and money developing IW.net, they get bashed. When super-special colorblind gamers want IW to actively change something to fit their minority situation suddenly we should all support them.

I support them but it's sad that you have to be disabled to be excluded from bashing.
"Oh but slopeslider they didnt choose to be colorblind!" I could argue they could choose to play another game instead of whining to IW, but I'm not a heartless tool who only supports disabled people petitions.

You're on a GAMING website complaining about people caring about games? Besides, constantly being Teamkilled does NOT make for a more exciting experience just a more irritating one, adding in a colour blind mind is hardly a massive amount of work and is beneficial to everyone. Sheesh

And besides who are you supposed to write to about changing the game aside from the makers? Yeah okay I'm going to ask the escapist to change it, hell I'll ask Gordan fooking Brown, anyone aside from the people who actually maintain and created the game.

there is enjoying gameplay and then taking it too far. i would accept this argument from a military sim player like OFDR, where dying is a real problem, but you play CD6 to live fast and die quickly. why in gods name would you petition the makers to change it unless you really cared, to a creepy sort of level about how you did.

Yeah but the point is, because said people are colourblind and thus unable to differentiate between friend or foe is ever so slightly crippling to your game play (or so I would assume)

But yes my reasoning for signed the petition for IW to keep dedicated servers in the game is because of the massive benefits they bring, and because I care heavily about gaming developing as an art form, and not as an exploited cash cow, many mod makers go on to work in the industry and shining examples of how to do things right (see Counter Strike, Natural Selection, etc), because they see things from inside the pen, and not from out side through the eyes of Bobby Kotik, and I still havent bought MW2 because I care about gaming so much, and I may never buy it, but I stand by my decision to sign the petition for dedicated servers.

I know colour blind mode and that are quite different, but it's just showing a reason as to why you should speak up to developers, otherwise you might as well roll over so they can stomp on the other side of your face, we buy the games, not them so we're well within our rights to say what we want.
