Gamer Played 45 Days of Just Cause 2 in Six Months

Just Cause 2 has inspired some amazing feats including the deaths of 1.5 billion soldiers and 26 million hours of play time.

The open world game Just Cause 2 offers the fictional island nation of Panau as a sandbox for players to jump out of planes, hijack military vehicles and generally wreak havoc by blowing installations and killing criminals. Avalanche Studios, the makers of Just Cause 2 released some really amazing stats collected over the six months since the game has been out. Some gamers have relished the freedom that Just Cause 2 gives them, including one gamer who has played for over 1,100 hours. That's over 45 days, people, in just six months. And Just Cause 2 isn't even an MMO.

I have to admit that even though I wasn't a fan of the game's storyline and cinematics when it came out [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/7358-Review-Just-Cause-2] in March, and I thought the parachute travel mechanics were frustrating, these stats kind of want me to pick up Just Cause 2 to try some of this stuff out.

Like, seriously, hijacking the hot air balloon and base jumping 6500 meters? That's just fun.

Game Time:

In the six months since release, players of Just Cause 2 have racked up a total game time of 26,118,470 hours. This is equal to around 1.1 million days of play time...Just a little under 3,000 years!
Over 15,500 player have clock in over 50 hours playing the game with one player spending 1,100 hours, or 45 days, on Panau Island.

Base Jump Facts and Figures:

570,329,383 meters - The combined height of each player's highest base jump is roughly 14 times the circumference of the Earth, or the equivalent of freefalling from the moon one and a half times.
6,800m - The highest possible base jump in the game is not from land, but from one of the many Easter Eggs...the hot air balloon. It can be flown up to the limit of the game world for a truly record-breaking freefall. Only 160 players have accomplished this feat.
1,500m - The highest point on land is not the location for the game's longest land-based freefall. A mountain near Kampung Enor Bengkok in Panau's desert has a steeper incline.
380m - The average highest base jump across all players is roughly equal to a leap off the top of the Empire State Building.

Player Death:

49% - Explosion
32% - Bullet
16% - Impact
2% - Drowning
1% - Other

Total Kilometers Driven:

Players have driven an incredible distance across the Panauan landscape with one player clocking in over 65,000km.
173,505,190km - Distance driven by all players in six months. Equivalent to:
4,338 times the circumference of the Earth
452 times the distance from the Earth to the moon
Three times the distance from the Earth to Mars

Weapons of Choice:

28% - Sub machine gun
25% - Assault rifle
19% - Pistol
12% - Sawed-off shotgun
10% - Machine gun
6% - Sniper rifle

Parachute Climbing:

85% - Players that use this mode of transport
2,752m - The farthest recorded slingshot climb of all players
288,006,325m - Players have climbed a distance equivalent to over 32,500 times the height of Mount Everest.

Military Kills:

In total, over 1.5 billion soldiers have been killed, roughly equivalent to one quarter of the popular of the Earth. Broken down as:

60% - Grunts
37% - Elites
1% - Demolition officers
1% - Ninjas
1% - Colonels

Taking down the game's 50 colonels has proved no mean feat, with only 16,741 players accomplishing the task.

Causing Chaos:

Players have caused well over 1 billion explosions across the island, including some serious damage to Baby Panay's pride:
9.9 million - Total propaganda vans destroyed. 1% of players have taken out all 100.
13 million - The number of statues of the beloved leader destroyed. However less than 1% of players have managed to destroy all 90.

Bloody hell, that's a lot. I've been playing TF2 for about a year now, and I'm only just getting close to 10 days of play time.

Always wanted this game, it just looks so repetitive.

Though, what isn't these days.

Something I've always looked down upon from just cause 1 to 2 is that Just Cause 1s ending was more bad ass XD

Go in a jet, fly and shoot down some nukes, intercept the presidential plane. Then kill all the body guards inside, go to the president, he jumps out of the plane, sky dive after him, catch up, and throw a semtex package on his ass and make him rain down little pieces every where.

I always thought JC2 let me down a bit in that regard.

I wish more games would release statistics like this. It's more than a little interesting to see.

I wonder how many more people do that after reading this article? :p

As a big fan of this game, and contributor to many of these statistics, this article made me very happy.

"I have to admit that even though I wasn't a fan of the game's storyline and cinematics when it came out in March"

That's not really a valid complaint against games like Just Cause.

OT: I've got to try that balloon thing...

Also: "MY NAME IS BOLO-SAN-TOES-EEEE!".

I've got a buddy that's logged just under two and a half years of playtime on WoW, his main character had 547 days on it last time we spoke of it. He also happens to look like 300 pounds of chewed bubblegum.

I couldn't play that game for more than an hour straight. Damn.
I only finished to get achievements.
