Games that have aged terribly.

The original Metroid, for the time it may have had a great atmosphere and great music but playing it now it's just vague and confusing. The same could be said about Castlevania 2:Simon's Quest.


Also I hate to say this but Wild Arms 1 has not aged particularly well compared to it's successors. The game play is generic, the setting,story and characters are average.It's only real stand out feature was the puzzles which are still pretty creative.It's a fine game but compared to WA2/3 it comes of as bland.

Project Gotham Racing 3 And 4!!!!! They used 2 be super cool now that forza 3 and GT5 is out they make those games look horrible.

Deus Ex has aged terribly.

Uh...what...Deus Ex is still fantastic...sure it may look like paper cut outs, but who cares, the game is very immersive and enjoyable

Well, I'm glad you can still enjoy it, but I tried playing it a little while back and I just couldn't get into it. I don't really care about the graphics, but the gameplay is just so clunky that I found it very hard to enjoy. And the voice acting... well, it just sucks. That always serves to make a story less credible.

I guess Gun hasn't aged too well, which is a shame, because it was one of my favorite games. Still, it's one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, I'll be listening to this theme music when riding into town in RDR, especially 'Apache Theme'. XD

One game I would say hasn't aged well at all is Dynasty Warriors. *shudder*

We talking the original? Yes. But 4 was, and still is an awesome game, and still probably the best in the series.

Bloody Roar didn't age well, but it didn't age very good when it was young, did it?

Perfect Dark. I wish it wasn't true, but today, it's really not so great.

I bought that on Xbox Live despite having never played the original. This purchase was PURELY based on it's reputation. I REGRET IT WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING.

Which is funny because a friend of mine swears up and down he loves the game still. I have it on the N64 but haven't played it yet... just been lazy.

This. The graphics look terrible but that's forgivable. The actual system of the gameplay have not aged well and new and better technology and styles have made it feel clunky and confusing to me. It could use a face-lift.

Weirdly enough, I still play Perfect Dark every single day. Perhaps it's just nostalgia, but fuck it, it's still fun! Timesplitters 2 is better though.

However, Deus Ex, that which so astounded me back in 2000, has aged about as well as cream does if you leave it in the sun. The AI is jaw droppingly terrible. They're all freaking myopic! The graphics, inconsequential as they may be, have not aged well, the gunplay is horrible, the acting has only got worse with age. It's just bad now, which is depressing, because back when it came out, it was revolutionary. I suppose everyone just copied its great ideas, and did it better. Such is life.

Funny enough, I only played this game last year for the first time and I thought of it as still a bit ahead of it's time. The only thing that kinda sucks in the gunplay which of course is way better in today's next gen games. But a lot of features I saw in this game, they're barely to be seen in other games, and never done well.

The only thing I didn't like about Deus Ex was the story, I've read enough Phillip K Dick novels and been interested in Cyberpunk enough years to have come across material way better than this that has gone above and beyond...=/

From a merely graphical perspective, it looks awful by today's standards. However, the soundtrack, like Gun's, is quite nice.

Loved the soundtrack, but I have to agree. Block characters scare me.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog games. I keep wondering how I stomached playing and re-playing Sonic 3 & Knuckles when I was a kid; they just control like ass. Sonic 3 is admittedly better than the others, but cripes are they clunky.

I don't think many games age well, gameplay has just evolved an incredible ammount and continues to, and generally I've found that most games older than a decade aren't fun anymore. Most of the games from the late 90s that I loved are, these days, complete rubbish. The only games that really hold up to the same quality are point-and-click adventure games and the more simplistic FPS games (like Half-Life) because neither genre has changed much. It's nothing to do with the graphics, it's just that games have gotten better. Simple as that. Modern games are more intuitive, accessible and most importantly more fun. I guess I have no sense of nostalgia, which in my opinion is a good thing.

The internet shoved Deus Ex down my throat when I got Steam. DEAR GOD, the concepts are awesome. Sadly, the execution hasn't aged well. But it's aged better than Perfect Dark. I can't see why you play THAT...THAT...abomination...every day.

Thank god some people agree with me. I too, bought this game on Steam recently after hearing all the praise it got, and found it to be complete mediocrity. I'm sure it was great at it's time but these days it just doesn't play well compared to other games. Like Onyx says, the execution has aged terribly.
