Vampire Rain ive heard is a god awful game.

and Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) was terrible. i could tell, just from the commercials. all i could think was "Who the hell is that princess chick?"

I think gamers dont tend to remember games that were complete fails...ya know becuase they were...complete fails. :|

That game was the collection of everything people hate about shooters, if not all games in general. Shitty characters, quick time events, invisible walls, stupid story, the whole game was just a piece of shit that was simply trying to be Call of Duty. They spent millions of dollars marketing the game...maybe they should have actually used some of that money to make the game!

I will continue the piling on of Spore.

That game had so much potential. If you watch one of the demos from a couple of years before it was released, you will see a game that could have been awesome. Instead, we got a game for kids that really underwhelmed.

I agree with this, but christ, C&C started sucking after Westwood got bought out, the last halfway decent game was Red Alert 2, before Yuri's Revenge turned it into a ridiculous pile of cartoony ass. The original Red Alert is still the magnum opus of C&C.

A fail game would have some piece of void pointless shit with horrible design in controls, graphics, story, and padded heavily with repetitiveness lacking imagination.

Anyways, back on topic, a "Complete Fail" game that I played had to be Brink, while it probably sold a lot of copies on opening, it just felt like it was too broken. The multiplayer, the thing that the game seemed practically designed for, hardly worked, and when it did I got enough lag to make me quit the game. Plus, that "S.M.A.R.T." movement system only worked on light character classes, and not only did it feel confusing to use, but your character slid around WAY too much, it's difficult to try and be some sort of awesome "Parkour Soldier" when your character happens to be wearing wet soap for shoes.

It's a shame because I was really looking forward to it, I even pre-ordered it before it came out; I rarely feel upset about a game purchase I make, but after playing that game the day I got it, I started to wish I didn't get it.
...I think I've got one to top both of those. Well, 52 to top 'em, really.

Alpha Protocol, the combat was just broken. The dialouge system was interesting but that was about the only good thing about it.

Worse in every way conceivable. I'd actually say it's the worst game ever made (that made it to retail). Imagine if someone slapped together the worst attempt at a Ninja Gaiden/Battletoads knockoff ever in Visual Basic, used graphics that looked like the drawings of a 4 year old, blatantly stole its music from another game and actually managed to get the game to retail for 50 bucks.

It's not even licensed schlock; you could realistically accuse Superman 64 of being shovelware. Cheetahmen doesn't even get that dubious honor! It sucks as hard as it can on its own.

When was the last time you saw a 2-D platformer that could crash at random just because you scrolled the screen right?
not to mention it was also on a game cartridge that cost $200 with 50 other games that were glitchy pile of mess and some of the games didn't even work

I would say a "complete fail" not only requires a game that shows absolutely no sign of the developers trying, but also promised so much. "Complete fail" is a term that, personally, should be used in the same way "colossal disappointment" would be used. There's not many games that, personally, fit that bill, especially when it has to go beyond subjectivity, which means games like "Kane And Lynch: Dog Days" (which personally, was a colossal disappointment) don't fit the bill.

Off the top of my head, I'd say Grand Theft Auto IV was a "complete fail", since it was a game that forgot it's roots and promised so much. Comparing Grand Theft Auto: San Andres to Grand Theft Auto IV is like comparing Far Cry to Far Cry 2, yes the realism was turned up by quite a bit, but realism doesn't make a game good on it's own. GTA IV's story was bland, the characters were plain and everything just felt too normal considering it was GTA, at least compared to the previous game. I'd go as far as to say Saints Row is what GTA IV should of been, a game that's not trying to go for a compelling narrative or realistic gun fights, but a game just trying to have fun. Hell, you can even tell the developers had fun making the game.

Oh, I was trying to be "fair" to Cheetahmen by keeping it in a vacuum and judging it purely on its own merits. Regardless, you are correct: Action 52 was one of the weirdest colossal failures in early gaming history.

I get the feeling that nobody remembers the Action 52 fiasco because of another, far more infamous disaster from around that era...

X-Blades is the one which pops to mind.

It was trying so hard to be the first game of a franchise, and it failed so miserably it hurt. I mean, seriously: how do you make a game with a half naked chick crawling through dungeons and fail?

Playing that game just made me appreciate silly, mindless entertainment more. It's harder than it looks.

I'm tempted to say Homefront as a recent example, but it actually did quite well in terms of sales, and reviews were decent.

Too Human was a game that failed due to long development and generally disappointing gameplay. Some would say PoP: Warrior Within failed because of universal hate for the game's style, and Sonic 2006 definitely failed. No question about it.

Basically any game that is hyped up in the least and turns out be mediocre or worse and/or is disappointing in some way can be categorized as a fail. You can't really call, say... Dead to Rights: Retribution a fail because no one was really looking forward to it. (I enjoyed it, surprisingly.)

That's my two cents.
