I think its high time that developers finally bite the bullet and include an option in multiplayer games to surrender. The option is few and far between in games (Starcraft II being one of the few games I can think of that includes it), but it is much needed.

Not only is it a long needed option, but its also long past due. Long past are the days where games are close nail-biters, or even enjoyable fights against long odds. Its basically crush or be crushed, with very little middle ground. You usually know before the game starts which side is going to win, if not then within the first few minutes.

So its simple - MP games need to the option to end games early that doesn't involve quitting or being penalized. A simple "Surrender" or "Call Surrender Vote" option that has you end the game early (giving your enemy the win) or puts up a vote for surrender that 3/4ths of the team has to vote "Yes" on to have occur. The winning/better team/player still gets their win, but the losing side doesn't have to suffer for 5-15 minutes and still gets to bow out with no penalties.

1v1 games, sure, no problem, most team games, hell no.
A lot of the best games I've had have been comebacks, from not backing down and surrendering. Just having the option to surrender and back out if going to take away a lot of those moments for people.

5 - 15 mins of losing isn't suffering, it's just the start of a loss, suck it up and put up a fight as you're never going to win a decent game with a defeatist attitude.

I remember DotA (as in the WC:FT map) finally did that. I think it was about two years ago. But yeah, there is a "forfeit" vote (I think it was just !ff) where, basically, if most of your team voted for forfeit, victory went to the other team. Really welcome, since you'd generally know when the game is a lost cause, furthermore, you'd also know if the opponents plan on ending it quickly or just dragging the games out. I've waited for 20 minutes and more for an utterly hopeless game to end, I don't think I should.

So surrender/forfeit should be an option, I see no shame in that. If I lose - I lose, I can recognise and accept it. I don't think waving a white flag and ending the match early would make me less of a player in any way, in fact, I'd most probably do it, so I can go and play another match.

I remember there being a surrender option in the Worms games. At least there was in Worms 3D. (Can't remember if there was in the 2D games. Don't see why not though)

Very much this.

I generally find it more fun being on a losing team than a winning one for the reason stated above. I don't see why having fun is the exclusive right of the winners, especially in what is effectively a fun, and non-competitive environment.

Grow a pair and play the game IMO.

You've never played LoL have you? Every other game someone on your team with die once early on and "surrender @ 20" will be the first thing they say. So annoying.

Even my premade team gets pissy sometimes, i'm playing Amumu jungle! Free win if you hang on 'til lategame remember! Speaking of junglers FUCKING PULSEFIRE NOCTURNE! RIOT PLS! RELEASE IT FASTER RIOT! RIOT PLS! I'm the only one who knows how to Man Mode effectively with Paranoia, nobody else can pull it off as well as I can. Fact of the day.

I wonder why they chose Nocturne of all people to release the next beyond legendary skin for? He's hardly popular at all. He's barely played come to think of it... Maybe they just needed a nemesis for Pulsefire Ezreal?

On the other hand, if they have an Ezreal who is 5/0 before 5 minutes and already has his damn Sheen then GGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Mystic Shot halves people's health at that point. Nobody likes getting completely destroyed so you can't just say "oh just grow up and make a comeback" no. He's two full items ahead of every single person on our team, every other lane was going average/bad and their team can literally just meatshield the Ezreal since he can instagib our entire team. It goes away from just winning or losing at that point, it's just not fun at all. So we surrender ASAP so we can forget the entire thing and move the fuck on from that pathetic excuse for a game.

Still could you imagine a game like CoD with a surrender button? It would be pointless since nobody cares about winning as long as they have a shiny K/D ratio. Any game that has relatively short game times doesn't really need one anyway.

I hate my WoW teams.

It always comes down to one capture or one loss of a territory and then the inevitable "let them win" comes up.

Dawn of War 2 has a concede feature. It only really works on 1v1 and 2v2 maps, however. Whenever it is on a 3v3, more likely you will get some shithead dropping rather than surrendering, thus making the entire match moot because it doesn't get ranked and you gain no experience for the win.

In practice it sounds great, but if you've ever played league, you know there are some games where you're barely even down and the team starts bitching and moaning, calls for a surrender vote, gives up way to early, and sticks you with a loss you don't deserve. In my opinion, including a surrender option reduces the incentive of a team to try hard and fight for a close game, since hey, I can just surrender and start a new one and continue the process until I get an easy game. Because people are lazy. It works in some games, but not in others. Maybe in objective gametypes in Halo, where a team of 8's can spawn kill a team of randoms no matter how bad they are at the game. Maybe if there are leavers on one team.
