hm... magic is always fun, I think..

Wheel of Time? Changing places with an enemy after you jumped into a lava pit never gets old. Especially in multiplayer. Or blocking..

Morrowind had some many cool ideas.. making up own spells and magic items is wonderful, but casting them sucked badly, just like the rest of the combat.

Vampire Bloodlines also was quite amusing, making all enemies cough up blood, summon ghostly wolves to gnaw on their spines, casting blood-sucking bats.. ah, happy nights.

And of course the dragon breath from Baldur's Gate 2 Throne of Bhaal. Or the meteor. Nothing like dropping a comet between minor enemies. Would look awesome with today's graphics..

So, magic is more or less always fun.

I liked the magic in Lostmagic only problem is you have to play the game to use it. It's an okay game but as an RTS it's pretty archaic(that might be the right word).
I agree, and would like to add two more: Golden Sun. the magic(psyenergy) had great use if you knew how to use it, and the summon system in "The Lost Age" was a thing of beauty

and the Tales games

Oblivion's magic is barrels of fun if you're powerful, a high level illusionist in that game is like a cat playing with mice, they're just toying with their victims.
Yeah. I have nothing more to add other than Oblivion + High Level MAgic = Fun

Hmmmm. Magic system with head-set usage would be fun. And a graaaannnddd spell book. Yeah... you'd look/sound like a total idiot but it would be fun :).

Oh and to make you angry: Harry Potter game! HA HA!

PS. Dark Messiah had a fun combat/magic system. Although it was highly... well... random?

LOST MAGIC FOR THE DS
TRUST ME.

This game is amazing, you end up mixing spells together to get an almost unlimited number of them and effects- not to mention you can have monsters that attack for you... omg i wish that game had a sequal. + There were multiple storylines, and when you replayed the game you still had everything.

I don't know why, but I always found magic in The Sims to be entertaining.. But that's probably just because of the surreality of it.

lost magic on the DS is good, it's a RTS where you draw symbols on the touch screen (think FMA) and do magic

The original Fable got magic right, did it beautifully. A huge number of spells with all kind of uses that were immensly fun to use. I liked summoning a monster to walk with me or use the beserk to become a monster or zip around at lightning speed. It was amazing.

In Puzzle Quest the magic is really nice and useful. In fact the game is really hard (and boring) without any magic.

Haven't seen anything like LucasArts classic Loom. There you play music to cast spells. It's also a game almost entirely about magic. The only game I can think of that does something similarly magical is Okami.

I'm personally not a fan of magic systems that more or less work like guns with ammunition, ie most games that incorporate magic. Not that I refuse to play them or anything, but I tend to think about magic in most games as just fantasy guns.

Since when was magic not fun?
Fable 2? Assign area of effect spell to all levels, hold down magic button, release, repeat.

Thrilling.
Wow, that sucks ass. I just maxed out Time Manipulation and got the fastest gun in the game. That was fun so, uhh, maybe you were doing it wrong?
Sure you could do that, but I was specifically trying to play as a magic user for a change. All you had was either ultra devastating area of effect spells which were dull, or combining magic with melee or ranged combat which wasn't how I wanted to play the game.
