Since I started playing a druid in my DnD group my interest in shapeshifting has increased substantially. So much so that I want to play a video games where you play as a shapeshifter. But when I was thinking of all the games where your character is a shapshifter the only one that I found good was D2. I'm thinking that there has to be more then just D2 but I cant for the life of me find them.

So I ask you escapist community what games do you like where you play as a shapshifter?

Edit: For clarification the type of game i'm looking for is an rpg where you have the choice to play as a shapeshifter or a class that can shapeshift. Along the lines of Diablo 2 or WoW.

I might be wrong because I never played as the type myself, but I believe one group of vampire in Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines can shapeshift. Either that or they are just really in tune with their animistic side. Worth a look. Some of the Elder Scrolls games let you become a Werewolf or Werehog. Kind of weak answers but its a weird question.

Guess I should of worded it differently. I should of said rpgs where you can choose to be a class that can shapeshift. Along the lines of Diablo 2s Druid.

RPGs only? Well, there goes Altered Beast...

For some reason Jade Empire is coming to mind, but that's not a class; some of the martial arts styles you can learn just transform you into various demons.

Gangrel. They can shapeshift with Protean 5 (though technically, in Bloodlines as opposed to the tabletop game, you just become tougher and look like a human-sized werewolf).

Doesn't guild wars 2 have a class that can shape shift into bears or something?

Let me look this up.

Yup:

The norn normally have the appearance of large humans, but they are able to shift into a were-creature of one of the Spirits of the Wild. In their human form they are not only tall, at around nine feet, but their proportions are much broader and more heavily muscled than a typical human. Thruln the Lost describes the norn as being giants along with the Jotun. Norn can also have long lives. A norn might live to 120 and maintain their good health and vitality for a long time, though very few die of old age.[1] Norn typically have light or pale skin, while those living in Lion's Arch have their skin tanned by the sun. According to Kranxx, norn generate a considerable amount of body heat at the slightest exertion.

In their transformed shape they take on an upright half-norn half-animal form, taking after one of the animals of the Spirits of the Wild. The were-form is furred, fanged and clawed and grants the norn attributes depending on the animal they transform into.

The transformation between norn and were-form is described as a blurring between the two with the form transformed into gaining a solid appearance over a short period of time. Any clothing or armor worn by the norn is covered by the were-form. It is not known if wounds or poison persist through the transformation.
So yeah, The Norn race in guild wars 2 can shape shift into 4 different man-animal hybrids.

Old D&D RPGs would have you covered. Baldur's Gate 1&2, Icewind Dale 1&2, Neverwinter Nights 1&2. Also, Vampire: Bloodlines (not sure if there was shapeshifting in Vampire: Redemption) and Elder Scrolls (Werewolves aplenty).

Also, might I suggest checking out this TV Tropes page [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ShapeShifting] for a starting point on various shapeshifting tropes, which in turn would lead you to lists of works containing those tropes.

The problem there is that the Norn shapeshifts suck donkey balls (except one ability on one shift, which is situational) and equipping them actively gimps your character (due to limited number of ability slots).

[PROTOTYPE], the game where you consume people to take their shape and their memories, and can morph your limbs into a variety of brutal weaponry.

Shadow Hearts' protagonist, Yuri, specialised in shapeshifting. In his natural state he fights mostly unarmed and has few abilities, so all of his powers revolve around taking on the form of various daemons that you collect throughout the game.

Don't really have an opinion of my own as I don't care that much about shapeshifters, but if you liked the druid in D2 you could always try it with the Median Ultimative XL mod. It completely changes the game and the classes. The druid for example gets a new shape shift form; quillfiend. :D

LOTRO is adding a shapeshifter class soon(ish); the Beoring. The class is gonna be a ranged spellcaster, who focuses on debuffs and can transform into a bear. It's got nothing in common with the Lore-master class that is a ranged spellcaster who focuses on debuffs and can summon pets, one of them being a bear. Yeah, people are very disappointed...

Dragon age origins has a shapeshifter class in it, it actually offers a fairly unique style of gameplay as well, playing as a bear or spider is quite different to a standard mage.

A few days ago a game called Dysan the Shapeshifter popped up on Steam.
I have no idea if it's any good but it might be worth a look.

Jade Empire.

One of the combat styles where you can change into various " demons "
and fight each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Probably not what you're looking for but as the more modern games have already been covered I'll venture one of my all time favourite games Wonderboy 3: The Dragon's Trap for Sega Mastersystem in which you variously change into a Lizardman, Mouseman, Lionman, Hawkman and Fishman. Sure it's a role playing game, you buy new weapons and armour and your character gets improved health as you go through the game.

Also Imogen on the BBC Micro where you variously turn into a cat, monkey and bird to solve problems. Sure it's a role playing game, your character is a wizard.

Now I'm feeling old.

Hey, "Lots of MMOs" just happens to be my favorite game. D:

More to the point, the first thing I can think of would be Skyrim. There are mods a plenty that deal with shifting stuffs.
Heck, there is even a popular druid mod day is decent.

Best bet, get that druid mod. Be a druid. Do druid things.
Other bet that is good, get some werewolf, bear over-hull things, alter it to your liking, and go to town.
