I rarely get into MP stuff. Outside of Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2 on my own or Black Ops and GR: Wildlands with friends a few years back, the most I?ve liked lately is the SoulsBorne variety, and even then it?s only for the messaging aspect. I briefly dabbled in the original Red Dead Redemption MP towards the end of server support.

RDR2 however is something that?s had me pretty much ignoring the single player game after finishing the Epilogues, even though I still have a ton of content there to find as well. I think its the progression and how deep it is. I?ve never gotten into GTA online after hearing so much about griefers and MTX?s, plus just being kinda worn out from the main game earlier so the Rockstar brand of MP content is pretty new to me. But I?m really digging it. I took a break a couple months back but after the new Outlaw pass dropped with extra bonuses dished out I?m once again hitting the trails.

I think it?s because outside of a mute main character, it?s basically like a more customizable, self-authored version of the story mode. There?s still the same outstanding map to explore, plus a custom character to flesh out. It also naturally feels more alive with other players passively showing up, but nothing is forced more than that. You have to actively choose to engage in the normal MP type of content. Im still on offensive mode in free roam for the hell of it (defensive is to minimize hostility), but haven?t had a problem with aggression. There?s also an option where you can parlay to neutralize hostile players or press charges against them to increase their bounty, as well as charge them insurance if they injure/kill your horse (which respawns anyways).

Considering the time period the economy is still too steep in cost regarding most items and pursuit buy-in?s, but it?s not enough to steer me towards MTX?s. I expect it to be a slow-burn kind of game anyways. Plus the Outlaw passes basically refund all the in-game gold spent along with a plethora of perks received.

My Rockstar profile says I?ve put over 145 hrs into it so far but it doesn?t seem like even half that. It?s about three dozen more than I?ve put into the story mode, so pretty safe to say enjoying the online more has been the biggest surprise of the game for me. My other games will be put on hold at least until I complete the new Outlaw pass.

Left 4 Dead is still an outstanding example. You're progressing along a clear A to B path through multiple areas with zombies surrounding you on all sides, managing your ammo and resources. Except you're doing it in multiplayer with up to 3 friends. Multiplayer that feels like singleplayer.

PUBG has it to a lesser extent too. You're just 1-4 players trying to survive until the very end, often going on a cross-country journey beset by hostile armed enemies on all sides.

Anarchy Reigns. The single-player is a glorified tutorial (you have to play 4 times to get the 100G achievement). After doing two playthroughs the first time, you can select whatever character you want in single player, but the story plays out the same. The offline vs. mode, battle royale, team death match, survival, and mad survival had good AI that were helpful in team based modes and challenging similar to fighting actual people. They were still exploits you could pull of though.

I'm confused as to what your question is.
Me too. I mean when I played Journey, I didn't know it was co-op, and all the time I thought the other character was a NPC until the end credits listed the names of the players that helped me; but that's all.

I was pleasantly surprised how single-player PvE focused Elder Scrolls Online was/is. I typically steer clear of MMOs, but there are only two dungeons per region that are scaled for parties of four players, with everything else scaled for single-player. The PvP mode locked off in the central region of Cyrodiil, and has to be specifically entered separately from the main campaigns. It's one of those weird games where I won't play it for six or seven months, then decide to dip into it for a weekend only to lose myself completely for a month or two.

You might want to give World War Z a look. It's L4D3 in all but name. A shameless rip-off and a movie tie-in to boot, but it still retains that L4D charm.

Second this one. There are some parts you may need help with in the overworld, 90% can be soloed. The base game story was good, but I've been enjoying a lot of the expansions' stories way more. Most people are pretty friendly and helpful. I don't even mind pugging a dungeon as about 75% the group is good. You have to have three numpties to ruin a run on base game dungeons, 2 on the harder DLC one. Even an easy trial can be done with randos, and sometimes veteran levels but that's more hit and miss. And I was dead against even trying these for over a year, and I've really come around on the idea

If I was still into zombie games I'd consider it. But for me zombies as an entire genre played itself out with Left 4 Dead/2. After that I don't really have any desire to play a zombie game ever again.

My brother and I plan on getting WWZ so we can co-op together. The movie sucked and had nothing to do with the book. A pg-13 zombie movie? WTF? I never heard of something so stupid.

I know my interest in zombies stopped when all media was over saturated in it. 2012-2013 always had some type of zombie spin, regardless if it made sense or not. I know that after Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer Is Dead, I would almost never touch a zombie game again. The only exceptions were Onehcnabara Z2: Chaos & RE2Remake. The former because in that installment, you are fighting more than just zombies [sub]{vampires, werewolves, & Jiangshi}[/sub]. The latter due to zombies being a legit threat again, instead of just popcorn mooks.

Did anyone else notice that 2012-2013 was also the years of the bow and arrow; especially in video games? You can thank the Hunger Games for that.

World War Z was a book? Geez, I'm showing my ignorance here. Is it worth a read?

Hell to the yes! The book goes for a documentary style in all of the chapters. The zombies are of the Romero kind, and I do not run like in 28 days later/Dawn of the Dead (04). The book is a satire with dark humor, unlike the movie, which takes itself very seriously it plays a completely straight. Also, check out the books spiritual prequel, The Zombie Survival Guide. They are both written by the same author, Max Brooks.

There's a chapter where the US Army fights a pitched battle against the zombie horde and loses, except it goes into detail to explain WHY they lost. Among the reasons why include that Tanks aren't terribly effective against zombies, automatic weapons resulted in a lot of wasted ammo, the ability to see the entire battlefield ended up panicking the soldiers when they realized just how huge the horde was and when you can hear each unit go down one after another morale breaks fast. Once they learned from their mistakes they do a lot better in subsequent battles.

If you never got into Halo, well the Master Chief Collection is out. Or rather Reach is and the rest will be rolling along in due time. And it is probably the series that popularized coop campaigns for FPSes, which are essentially 'single player multiplayer'.

They did no such thing. Everyone was enjoying console co-op campaigns before Halo even appeared.
