It occurs to me that I'm...well...a bit obsessive when it comes to the games I really get into. Games where if you put me in a room with someone similarly devoted to the game's squishy inner workings and gave one or both of us a laptop and the game's wiki (if it has one), we'd take that sucker apart and put it back together talking about strategies and builds and whatnot.

The most obvious example for me recently has been Fallout: New Vegas, where I've pored over enemy statistics and tested loadouts on characters that were never intended from the start to be used to beat the game, only to be used as crash test dummies in Quarry Junction or the Cazador Nest. Cheat codes to get the proper level and attributes for the test? Oh, YOU KNOW IT. And whenever the game comes up on this site, I'm like all up in that with advice.

There have been other games that have done similar over the years, but I don't think I've ever geeked out quite as hard over strategy for something that wasn't actually a strategy game like I have with FONV.

For Discussion! So how about you folks? What games could you dissect and discuss with like-minded folks at the sort of length that would make any sane observer say "Christ, what a bunch of nerds"?

Funnily enough, Plants vs Zombies.

My fiance, best friend and I spent hours talking over the best strategy for beating the Endless Survival level, and what plants were better at what roles.

I am a Plants vs Zombies nerd...

Depending on who I am talking to from past experience, Pokemon, Final Fantasy or Kirby games can get us talking for hours on end.

Legacy of Kain all the way. possibly the best game series I have ever played, because of the absolutely amazing storyline. I play it (well Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance) every once a year, and to quote Yahtzee, if I was Batman, this series would be my murdered parents.

Most MMO's that I've played, like Runescape and WoW. Haven't played either of those in ages but I always seem to remember everything I do in those games pretty clearly.
I'm sure I'd remember a great deal about Maplestory too if there was anything to remember.

The 'Legacy of Kain' series. I have lost friends from going on and on about those games.

I really like talking in-depth about games. My favourite games to do this for are Fallout 3 and New Vegas, because of the abundance of locations, items, and statistics.

I'm kind of like that when it comes to Sims3 since I'm such a custom content junkie. If anyone ever mentions something they don't like or need to have in their game I usually know where to find the mod or object.

Dragon Age: Origins. In my defense, most of my friends play it so it's just a conventient conversation starter

Team Fortress 2.
Ask me about any weapon in that game and I can probably give you the update history on it. Heck, I could probably give you the update history of most things in the game, including the classes. I know I could definitely quote the Meet the Team videos word for word.
Yeah... I like TF2. Like, a lot.

I'd have to go with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Off the top of my head I can rattle off my version of the perfect guns specialist playthrough. If hard-pressed, I could probably do Energy weapons and CQC weapons as well.

Dungeons and Dragons? Roleplay? They are usually so describtive that you do go into minute detail.

Suikoden series, the story behind Nazi Zombies, F.E.A.R series, Star Wars in general, Kingdom Hearts series, Final Fantasy series, Resistance series, Mass Effect series, Gears of War series, Half-Life series, Silent Hill series (when it's not freaking me out). I am a fan of series..es. Is that how you'd spell it?
Anyway, yeah. If a game has a good story and I find ONE other person who gets as excited about it as I do, there's no coming back.

Oh heck yes Fallout New Vegas. While I'm not a Uber Character builder like you (haven't even finished the game once or gotten to level 30 at 79 recorded hours played), I'm digging through the guts of the game and reworking things using the GECK, that annoyed the heck out of me. Altering weapons, survival mechanics and more. The gamebryo engine is quite robust and capable of doing many things, truth be told it's wasted being used on consoles (inb4 flame, I have a Xbox360 also).

Once I get the whole .nif model format figured out, I'll be tossing in new weapons and environments.

Guns specialist, huh? Loadout, skill progression, and perks to my inbox---or as a reply to this comment. Chop chop!

*highfives*

Same here. Every time I have a friend over I will always talk about TF2 at some point. If they're receptive, I start discussing all the items, classes, tactics, my impression on the latest updates...and then I suddenly realize I've been dominating the conversation for twenty minutes.

I have patient friends. Fortunately for me they like the game (even if they don't play it).
