Games you get mad that you can't talk about

There are three games that I consider my favorites that I can never talk about in public because literally NO ONE else played them. It makes me resentful that I can't have a shared experience with someone who also played these games in the past as well. I'll let you know mine, and tell me about them if you played them too, or just post what games you feel the same way about. Either way. Let's vent our lament.

Hunter the Reckoning.... literally the best multiplayer hack-n-slash ever

http://youtu.be/LUOLkivDeI4

Otogi Myth of Demons... an amazing game based on traditional Japanese folklore, could literally go entire levels without touching the ground using dashes and flash jumps

http://youtu.be/IhMYTDr44Js

Phantom Dust.... this game can't be explained, it's just amazing, and unique in way I've never experienced in a game.... apparently they are remaking it as of June this year

Nobody I know has ever heard of, let alone played, Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire, Cold Fear or Kuon (they're all PS2 games). And with the exception of Odin Sphere - MAYBE - I've never seen any of these games brought up in these forums.

There's also Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. It receives some mention here and there and there's one user sporting a Munchie avatar but that's it. And it's easily one of the best RPGs ever made. So it goes.

Mine would be some Visual Novels, though a few people around here have played them. By "them" I mean Grisaia no Kaijitsu and Katawa Shoujo but really who hasn't at least heard of KS nowadays? Grisaia has an anime started now too so maybe it will get the attention it deserves.

The real one I can't talk about are Comyu, because i've yet to see anyone else mention it even in VN specific threads, yet i've seen people talk at length about other VNs (like anything made by Type Moon) so I know there are people who might have at least heard of it.

It's really good and i'm not the biggest fan of battle VNs in general and Comyu is very firmly focused on battles over any other aspect of the plot. The usual highschool scenes almost die out entirely in some routes in favour of more battle focus and it's primarily used to introduce three new characters then be left alone for ages. It's basically a group of random people forced together through coincidence getting the power to summon an avatar and there are other avatars and they fight each other etc etc so you can guess the general gist of it. Of course their avatar is the best looking in the form of a massive black dragon that has control over gravity.

It's kind of a dark-ish one but not as dark as some others out there, it has happy endings for (almost) everyone even though it goes into some dark places. It does have set route paths so you have to do every route in a set order being Benio, Saejima, Myuki/Ayaya then finally Best Girl Kagome.

Kagome's ending is 100% canon I have to assume, which is good because as i've already explained, Kagome is Best Girl. Nobody can look at all those plot twists and developments and still say anything else is even close. Not to mention the amazing ending.

The other one would be Monster Girl Quest because what discussion could their be in a hentai game right? Except this one is better than a lot of legit JRPGs out there both in overall story, character focus, music and even combat (good gameplay mechanics in a porn game? How the hell is that possible?)

Basically, you control Luka who's an overly cute shota who goes on a quest to kill the Monster Lord and bring peaceful co-existence between humans and monsters. If you lose a battle you get a detailed rape scene and a game over, maybe also a death depending on what cheap fucking bullshit, fuck you tentacle types 1v1 me swords only ****** beat you. Umm, every monster is some kind of monster girl too, if the title didn't tip you off. There's only like... 8-10 unavoidable H scenes over the course of the (pretty damn long) game so if you win every battle so you can't complain about there being too much porn to enjoy the story. Get good scrub.

It also takes the piss out of conventional JRPG tropes and like some other parody games/anime (BlazBlue, Gurren Lagann, Kill la Kill) it ends up as a good hearted celebration of the genre. Hell it gets all Power of Friendship after the 3/4 mark which I wasn't expecting at all.

Pretty much the same here, plus maybe pokemon, although I can't really talk about that in my social circle either because it's a "kids" game.

I make so many Final Fantasy jokes around my friend, even including spin offs. Sad part is that some of the jokes make people who have actually played Final Fantasy games laugh, but since I'm the only one in my friends who has played Final Fantasy and not just Kingdom Hearts most of my jokes fall on deaf ears.

Come on, you don't need to be that old to have been playing games back in 2001. It's just I never owned an Xbox. I was a PS2 guy, and a PS1 guy before it.

Battletanx and it's sequel, both of which let you use full sized nukes in battle. It's a vehicle battle game. Take mad max and combine it with tanks made out of scrap and sci-fi weapons.

Extreme G. Everyone knows what wipeout is, everyone knows what F-zero was, but nobody has heard of the game with bikes and weapons in it which also has actual simulated sonic booms in it. Has anyone played XGRA? It has supersonic drifting in it. It's also amazingly immersive and hints at a bigger sci-fi world despite just being a futuristic racing game.

Katamari. I don't know what we'd talk about, but it's a thing!

Hunter the Reckoning - Played it, and the sequel.

Phantom Dust - Hidden gem, is really sad that more people haven't played it.

Odin Sphere - Fell in love with this game the first day I saw the trailer. Got it, played it, loved it.

Grim Grimoire - Bought it, for whatever reason I never played it yet, still in shrink wrap.

Battletanx - Both are amazing, my N64 and I loved them.

Extreme G - Great game, but still prefer Wipeout.

Katamari Damacy - Got the first one cause a reviewer could only say it was fun. Played every game in the series sense.

---------------

For me: Valkyria Chronicles, Singularity, Blue Dragon, Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose, Blackthorne, Metal Warriors, Shadowrun(SNES Version), Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, Rock ?N Roll Racing, Omega Boost, Persona, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Saiyuki: Journey West, and Tactics Ogre.

I'm sure there are tons more, just not remembering them. But being an older gamer, not as many of the older games are well know by the general public anymore.

Cold Fear
Cold Fear was brilliant. Loved the concept of Resident Evil on a boat, and it took Capcom until Revelations to finally figure that out.

Only ones I have a hard time talking to people IRL about are Echo Night: Beyond, Disaster Report, and Raw Danger. Nobody I know offline has ever really heard about them before. Hell, even outside these forums, I know maybe two people who have even heard of Steambot Chrnoicles. I've at least seen all of mine mentioned on here before, though.

I liked the "difficulty" of the game, to put it one way. Limited saves, limited heals, limited ammo, limited everything. It's the survival horror Capcom stopped making around Code Veronica. I also liked the level (i.e. boat) design, how it felt so immense and you could go pretty much anywhere, anytime. Lots of exploration to do, and also lots of backtracking and aimless wandering, since there are no maps, no waypoints and in fact every sign is written in Russian, so you have to come up real close to everything just so the protagonist can read and translate whatever's written on it.

By the way I played the original Echo Night (PS1) and own Echo Night: Beyond, but never got around playing it. Nothing against it, just got sidetracked is all. The first game was... awkward. From what I've seen so is Beyond.

Grim Grimoire can be a bit taxing. It's not even a control thing. Controls I can get around. You know it's an RTS right? And the game strings campaign after campaign? There's saving in between, but not saving during campaigns. No manual saves, no autosaves, no quick saves, no checkpoints, nothing. This gets frustrating about 3/4s into the game, since latter campaigns can take quite a lot of time. Losing after hours of gameplay only to have to start over from scratch is problematic. I suppose I could've tried toning down the difficulty setting but I was too proud for that so I just gave up 3/4s into the game.

Odin Sphere is magnificent though. That's another unusually difficult game, but I loved everything about it. I suppose there's a good way and a bad way of "being difficult".

Hell yeah Extreme G. I got the first one as a present, I had no idea what to expect.

"OK, motorcycles with lasers, that's cool."
"Well this futuristic city is pretty neat I guess. And I like trance, so that's cool."
"Huh, that wall up ahead looks like the track. But what OH SHIT OH MY GOD HAHAHA AWESOME!"

2 was a letdown visually versus 1, but the addition of actually killing opponents and the higher speeds made it ok.

Has this thread turned into a list of obscure games? That would be nice.

Anyway, I can normally talk about games with other people, however there's some problems when there are games which has only been in English, because it eventually turns into an ordeal where I have to translate everything.
