Games You'll Defend 'til You Die

Just wondering what games there are that you'd defend non-stop from criticism.

Mine would have to be Mafia and KotOR (two games that I mention in every other post). About 10 minutes ago I was looking for mafia 2 updates when I found a review for the original Mafia on Eurogamer so I thought I'd have a look. To my dismay, the reviewer had made the lynch-able mistake of comparing Mafia to GTA 3 which was released at a similar time.

He slagged off pretty much everything about the game and came up with some pretty stupid reasons for not liking the game, one was along the lines of:

"The game only allows you to take a few shots before you die - and if you're caught with a pump action shotgun in your face you'll be killed in a single shot."

I couldn't believe how pissed off I was that this guy had completely missed the point of the game, and was dismayed at the number of people who had decided not to get the game because of this review.

If the last comment hadn't of been written in 2002 I would of jumped straight in there!

None. I may defend games at times, but if some retard disagrees and tries to argue over it, I'll just walk away because all I'm really doing is shouting at a wall... except a wall may be smarter.

None, because even my favourite games of all time are open to criticism by me, I ***** about them all the time. It would be hypocritical to not let others do the same.

That said, if I don't agree with a particular criticism then I will defend something I like.

Only Diablo 2 and Neverwinter Nights. They have little to no flaws.

Every other game has a flaw that I can relate to, but those two - none.

Far Cry 2! D:
Poor game, everyone hates it so much :(
It one of the most immersive games I've ever played.

The rest of the games I like can defend themselves...

Baldur's Gate. Not that many people bash it, but I've heard a few younger gamers who got into it well after playing games like Morrowind, Mass Effect, and KOTOR. They don't like the primitive graphics and turn-based combat, but the game was cutting edge in its day. And there's a reason it still has an active modding community 11 years later.

Silent Hill 2.

And possibly Tetris.
I defend Tetris from my friends who only like new games and say it sucks and I defend pokemon , but not when people say it's getting old and it's repeating , it's when they say it's a game for little kids and so on.

OoT and Warcraft 3. I like Guild Wars but it's going in a questionable direction.

Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II.
They're flawed and they feature Disney characters, but they are just goddamn fun.

Similar story with Lego Racers.

Formerly the Guitar Hero series and Pokemon, but I've currently run out of enjoyment for them.

I don't think any game is worth dying over. However, when someone makes a bad argument for not liking a game, they get bashed.

I'd defend Doom, Clive Barker's Jericho, Oblivion and Fallout 3 to almost obsessive levels. :)

There's a near endless list of them for me, but definitely Ocarina of Time and Super Mario RPG in particular.

There are so many reasons to appreciate those games, it would be hard to call them bad.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the N64: I had, at one point, called it "fresher than Ocarina of Time" only to find myself berated by people who've never played it.

Battletanx on the N64. It's no secret that things were real sparse for N64 owners, but Battletanx proved to be a fun little multiplayer deathmatch game that otherwise fails to stand out.

Street Fighter 2010 on the NES.

Uniracers on the SNES.

Burn:Cycle on the PC.

All Leisure Suit Larry games before Magna Cum Laude: Al Lowe wasn't involved past that point, however, as a Larry fan I did see Magna Cum Laude as amusing... far more so than the latest piece of shit.

Alternatively, I found myself liking Command and Conquer a lot more than Red Alert, and for that matter, I thought "Warcraft: Orcs vs Humans" was superior to WC 2 and 3.
