"It could be that he was simply acting out a part in a video game. Maybe he had interjected himself into a game in his mind."

Sgt. Clayton said of Martin-Urban's behavior, "In the last year, he had no friends. No boyfriend. No girlfriend. No pets. He was consumed with the video games. He spent an enormous amount of time playing them."
1. When in the history of the world has someone reinacted something violent from the mass media who wasn't already mentally unstable?
2. When you're living a miserable life, people withdraw into a vice, wether it be food, television, alcohol, or video games.
3. Where was his parents? I mean, if they had left him to play video games while they went sightseeing, then there's part of the problem. If they couldn't get him off the computer once, than his parents should have realised that he has problems. And as parents, its their responsibility to do something when their child has problems.

Oh, and The ESRB. Use it.
His Dad was already dead, so I don't think he could really tell him to get off his computer.
Through suicide if I may add. Definately probably helped his insanity or something.
Yeah, probably not the best thing for him.

You know, considering our crime rates here in Louisiana (Remember, we have New Orleans down here) I have never once seen games in the hot seat on our local news. There was one time when the police department in a nearby town was calling for a ban on 187 Ride or Die for glorifying gangsters and cop-killing (Why they picked such a low profile, generic game that I'm sure that over 99% of gamers never heard of, yet alone played, over the usual GTA or Saint's Row I don't know) but that was about it.

...Martin-Urban was an isolated individual with emotional issues and an obsessive personality. His father committed suicide in 2007 and among favourites on his YouTube profile was a video from a cult that prophesied the arrival of alien beings.

... to suggest that the games were the cause seems to be mistaking the symptom for the disease.
How many clues do people need before they see that these emotional problems add up on people? It's so much easier to point the finger and place the blame on something else - unfortunately, gaming is that something.

If someone was to have a camera man follow them around while they do this and film it (for whatever sick twisted reason), I'm sure someone would point out, "Well, he watched a lot of violent movies; that must be why he did it!"

Movies like Saw disturb me more than any game ever has. Well, almost more... I have to admit that the first game to make me worry about video games influencing people to violence is Postal 3. The things I saw in that trailer disturb me.

I'm not saying every loner in the same position is going to do this type of thing, but we live in a world where people are just angry at so many things. The concept of some people is that if they're going to kill themselves, they're going to take as many people with them as they can.

And to that I say BULLSHIT! Where's the VG industries propoganda? They should be all over this saying Videogames aren't to blame, why won't any of the companies stand up for themselves? The Cigarette companies sure didn't bend over and take it, and they -actually were- killing people.
That made me lol. Well played.

Well I saw the news story last night and well they actually didn't mention the possibility of video games in this shooting.
Maybe the GJPD ruled it out for a trigger.

These stories are practically the norm now, in the future there will be gerbil wrestling as entertainment and that will be blamed for shootings or random acts of clotheslines.
