The last few days I have been in a major gaming slump. I simply can't get into anything. It isn't that I lack games either, I have way too many in the backlog as it is. But, I can't decide what to play. I'll pop in a game every now and then, but I'll quickly lose my interest.

What do you do when you enter this state of gaming purgatory?

I keep playing stuff until something sticks. I usually know I want to play something, sometimes it's just really specific.

It's kinda rare when it happens to me though...I'm usually addicted to 1 game for a while. then I move on to whatever new thing catches my interest. So I guess I just...play..more?

I go back to an old standby, like GTA IV or RDR or something I can just enjoy mindlessly for a while. It seems to build up my desire for something different after a significant amount of time. Kind of like an appitizer/palette cleanser.

Just don't bother. I haven't played anything for a while (except Angry Birds), since completing Bulletstorm for the second time. Tempted to pick up MAG soon, though

Just Cause 2, man.

The most mindless game you will ever play... with a flying strip club...

I've been feeling like this lately... nothing I play seems to be that appealing to me.
...But I did just finish Catherine (15 hours / 2 days) and holy shit on a stick Batman!
...it was good.

I hate to put it this way but, the reason I liked it is because of the challenge. That might be what you are missing. I know nowadays its impossible to find something that is actually "Challenging". Not "You die in 2 shots so its hard durrrr", that's not challenging. No... I played this game on NORMAL and I got butchered... good thing for the infinite lives glitch.

As for what I do when I can't find anything to play... Valve TF2 servers are always fun... always full of such sweet sweet unsuspecting noobs to eviscerate <3.

Waiit....you played it for chllenge ... And cheated? Shame....( hmmm i didn't read ANYTHING on catherine outta fear of spoilers , but now that you mention it , i did have 80 retries when i got to the end of the game , does that mean i accidently cheated o_O ,) ime for you to do masochist mode ( hard mode )

OT : happens to me sometimes , i suggest to pick a different genre , pereferably one that you rarely play . Too much of a good thing is bad , its like eating chiken every day , one day your just tired of it , even though you love chicken.

Whenever I get like this, I just turn off the console and stick on a DVD or read a book and after a week or so the itch to play something comes back to me and I start gaming again with renewed interest.

Usually, i just go on the PC and simply look at forums, watch videos, flash cartoons and such.

Haven't used my handheld to actually play games for over a week now, mostly used them to look on the internet...then again, i do have a backlog on steam, the whole Assassin's Creed collection, Recettear, Borderlands and other stuff. :x

EDIT: AND Magicka

I am having the exact problem. I think it's something to do with the fact that I don't have Skyrim. Everything else just seems dull in comparison. Oh well, pre-ordered Dead Island so in a couple of weeks I can distract myself for a bit. For now... level grinding.

Relax, everyone has their gaming burnouts. Happens with pretty much every hobby you really do a lot. Just spend some time on something else, I usually watch some more TV shows and anime, read more, and when I'll actually start to feel like gaming again, usually after a week or 2-3, I pick something up.

I had this problem, after playing certain games in my past. My solution were to play the same game again, I hadn't got enough of it, and other games withered when I tried play them after these certain games. My list, as far as I can remember.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance.
Dragon Age.
Mass Effect 2 (After I had played it, I just had to play both of them, again).

I also were in the same state of mood after playing Fallout 3, however, I avoided playing it again, by playing lot of mindless multiplayer games like TF2 and MW2, until I were ready for a different story game.

Just ignore it, do something else, eventually you'll want to game again. Happens to everyone at some point.

OR

Pick a game that vaguely interests you but isn't in your usual genre range. A change is as good as a rest - and all that.

Actually I think Catherine is my problem. I had been looking forward to it for many months. It finally came out and I played the hell out of it. There is a few more endings to get and such, but I feel I have worn out its newness after three playthrus. Now that its pretty much over I can't find anything that can fill it's shoes.
