Gardening implements as weapons

After seeing a thread discussing the effectiveness of a scythe as a weapon, it made me ask this: Which agricultural tool is the best weapon? I know that oppressed villagers in Japan (AKA Ninjas) improvised weapons out of the tools they had available, so it can be done.

For me, I'd probably grab a shovel (thanks, All Quiet on the Western Front) and, if possible, rip a pair of pruning shears in half.

Spade, the ultimate in anti-zombie meelee weaponry

also, get a few metal trowels and you've got some fairly effective daggers, and possibly a gardening fork and a hoe

A combine is quite efficient.

Most of them are. A lot of medieval weopons were based on agricultural weapons, modified by farmers for the annual revolt.

I'd go with the chainsaw. What? It's used in agriculture - To clear out forests and turn them into farmland. It counts.

It really depends on the situation. If I'm allowed to defend myself, then a pitchfork would be good. But, if the situation calls for an upfront assault, I would go for a shovel. If my enemies are reasonable, then I'll just bribe them with avocados and let them be on their way. Until I silence them from behind with pruning shears and hand cultivators.

Actually, the sword is one of the only weapons that wasnt based off of a farming implement. And in the grand scheme of things, was in some cases inferior.

Me, I would go with the sickle.

I honestly think a discussion of weapons as gardening implements would be much more interesting, so I'm going to do that. To qualify, they mustn't be traditionally used for gardening or agriculture.

So I guess you could use tiny explosives to make holes for planting?

It's actually a lot harder the other way around...

Gotta go with the spud bar, its a long heavy metal bar, my first thought when I first saw one was it was practically a spear! And even if it isn't used as a spear, it could probably bludgeon to death any zombie you run into.

Just popped down to the shed - very tempted by the petrol rotovator - but with limited fuel and too heavy to attack anything above the knee, I'd have to pick the old favourite, the sledghammer, with a bill hook as a backup.

Also the spear. And the club. And the bow. And the gun. Those are all not based on farming equipment. Neither is the Nuke. but that one doesn't count.

Another cool farming weapon would be the sling(used by shepherds, so agricultural). It's awesome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sling_(weapon)

Although when thinking about it, the spear, club and bow were all used for hunting at first... So maybe they count as agricultural "tools" as well?

Then only the sword and the gunpowder weapons were made for warfare?

I don't know. But farmers suck. I hate those pesky little revolts in Europa Universalis III. They are fun to kill in Mount and blade though... And they don't seem to realize that they're supposed to have all possible weapons available to them. It fun how they're ignorant.

Possibly the classic pitch-fork. It can function like a spear, which gives the wielder a long and precise reach, it's easy as heck to use, but it can also trap a sword or an other weapon between it's prongs.

Alternatively, a pick axe. Swings like an axe and punctures like a spear.

If I ran into my shed to find a weapon, I'd grab my axe, but I guess it doesn't really count as a gardening tool...

A pitchfork could be useful...
I sort of just want to take my pickaxe apart and use the handle as a club.

I don't know all that many gardening tools though.
