Did anyone else kind of think this when they heard what the retro lancer was.

"Oh shit, that's going to be annoying as fuck."

Just my thoughts.

Someone being able to charge up to you and ins-ta kill you sounds very obnoxious. Especially in choke points.
Did anyone else think that when they heard about it.

Sounds even more inconsistent than the chainsaw. How many times have you point blanked someone with the shotgun, for them to just sponge it and get you anyway? But when I do that, I do the weird step back thing. My friend and I tested it, he shot me with a pistol shot (one shot, normal standard pistol). I stepped back 8 times. 8!

Yet I hit someone with 3 blasts from the shotgun, and I just instant get sucked in.

This one all you need to do is run towards them. I wont be using it, put it that way.

I don't get it, whats so 'retro' about lancers? What could ever be considered 'retro' in a franchise that has only been around for 5-6 years and has only 3 games? Somethings missing here...

It's not all that different from the shotgun rushers, its a guy who roadie runs towards you and one shots you once hes in melee range.

It's "retro" in the Gears universe, not to the game audience.

I gathered the following from the Gears of War novels. Before the war against the Locust, the humans were fighting a war against each other (the Pendulum Wars), where standard bayonets were good enough. When the Locust arrived, bayonets weren't good enough. In fact, in one of the novels, a Gear tries to bayonet a locust, and the bayonet breaks. Another Gear then picks up a chainsaw and kills the grub. Marcus and Dom then talk about how the bayonets are worthless against the Locust, and that a chainsaw attachment would be better.

Whew, not really the original topic, but I just wanted to clarify.

i think it would be ok if you made it a bull rush where you activate it and you just B-line it, you cant turn, and it takes half a second to actually activate (with a bloodthirsty roar as a signal). this way its a tactical choice to rush an opponent and not just some cheap way of saying "so if anybody runs into you while your sprinting they die"

In one of the videos Epic released, Cliff asked the viewer to imagine the Lancer with, instead of a chainsaw, a 1 and a half inch knife.

A bayonet?

I broke my nose with my palm.

Yea, while I have no problem with the actual gameplay mechanic of it (assuming they don't absolutely overpower it, and make some downside to this charge attack), wasn't the appeal of having a gun with a chainsaw on the end, the chainsaw bit? Woohoo, now our gun has a bayonet and not a fairly unique weapon addition in the form of a chainsaw. Because that hasn't been done.

Don't know/care much about the bayonet thing.

I always unhappy with the Lancers hungriness for ammo and weak damage, except when supressing or when trying to take out waves of Tickers.

Usually ditched the Lancer in favour of the Hammerburst II.
I've found that the Lancer is a decent suppressive weapon and I ditch the Gnasher in favor of the Hammerburst. I always feel like I run out of shotgun rounds too fast.

And if a standard bayonet breaks on Locust hide, the bayonets on the Gears 3 retro Lancers had better be made of either adamantine or unobtainium.

I play Gears 2 all the time, and when someone comes at you with a chainsaw chugging away, just shoot him. They flinch and can't chainsaw for a short while.

I personally think the Retro Lancer is an awesome idea and I plan to get it in gold, Permanently!

I'm more of a shotgun user but a golden lancer will look awesome in the full version of GoW3.

Sounds reallllly stupid. Why 'downgrade' the lancer? Chainsaw>bayonet.
They have 2 Lancers, the normal and the retro, the retro is more of a sub-machine, it is faster but has less accuracy.

I think the idea of the retro Lancer is to give new spark to a favorite weapon. There's a reason that the Halo assault rifle was never the same twice and it's the same reason here; if you keep bringing back the exact same weapon over and over, people will get bored with it.

Good job Epic.

You gotta remember that being shot whilst roadie running slows you down and with a few rounds, you are almost stopped. I played GoW3 at a convension and you should rest assure the game is very good. The beta is only going to help things. Remember, if a title has a public beta, it is almost guaranteed to be very decent online.

CoD4, the last amazing CoD after CoD2, had a public beta and it was very, very good online.

GoW3 will not be a mistake like GoW2.
